To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, ANTHoN SUHR, a

citizen of U. S. A., residing at Gibbon, in the county of Buffalo and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand and Wrist Protectors, of which the following is a specification. I My invention relates to hand and wrist protectors designed to be Worn by persons engaged in husking corn and similar occupations, and has particular reference to an attachment to be worn over the palm of the hand.

The primary object of the invention is to provide an improved protector so constructed as to be strapped over the hand of a person using the same, in such a manner that the wrist and palm of the hand will be protected by a metal plate without interfering with free movement of the hand.

Another object is the provision of a protector of the character described which is '3-3 of Fig. 2.

In the preferred form, invention comprlses a protector designed to be worn over a mitten 1 on the hand of a user asshown in Fig. 1 and consists of a leather pad 2 adapted to be engaged over the wrist portion of a m tten and secured thereon by a strap 3 suitably secured to the outside of the pad. The side edges 4 and 5 of .the pad are recessed to accommodate the thumb and heel portions of the mitten and a flared end 6 is provided to coverthe palm thereof.

A metal plate 7, substantially concavo convex in longitudinal cross section, is secured over the outside of the ad and extends from the flared palm portion 6 well up into the wrist portion. Straps 8 and 9 are disposed beneath the opposite ends of the plate 7 and both plate and straps are secured to the pad 2 by means of rivets or other suitable fasteners 10.

One strap 8 is fastened over the back of the mitten at the beginning of the wrist while the other strap 9 fastens over the back of the hand portion beyond the thumb. The concavo-convex formation of the plate provides a bowed central portion 11 to accommodate the curve of the hand at the wrist, the' side edges of the plate at the bowed portion being recessed at 12 and 13, the thumb edge 12 being recessed deeper than the opposite edge 13.

The opposite ends of the plate 7 are enlarged to cover the wrist and palm and protect all parts of the mitten which are exposed to wear. The protector is designed to be' worn upon the left hand of auser,

with the butt of an ear of corn resting on the enlarged end of the platecovering the palm of the hand. Owing to the recessed side edge 13 it may be worn with ease u on the right hand when used by a left han ed person. The degree of curvature at the bowed portion 11 may be varied to suit the individual.

While in this embodiment of my invention I have shown and described certain details and materials which enter into the construction of my improved protector, I desire it to be understood that I do not limit myself to such, but that any changes may be made therein and such substitutions effected as will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

It will be seen that my protector isalso a supporter for the hand and wrist, the plate being of the requisite thickness to perform this function.

I claim A protector of the class described 'comprising a flexible pad adapted to be worn over the palm and the wrist of the user,,a series of transverse straps secured to said pad and adapted to extend around the users hand and wrist to secure the padin position, and a metal plate secured to said pad and. conforming to the contour of the palm and ad'acent wrist portion of the users hand a apted to form a guard against excessive wear by the butt portion of an ear of corn.
