To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, CLIFFORD C. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cartersville, in the county of Bartow and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mixers for Gas- Engines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apperta-ins to make and use the same. I
The present invention relates to an attachment for internal combustion engines, and has more particular reference to a gasket for application to an intake port of the engine through which the power medium passes into the combustion chamber of the engine.
The object of this invention is to provide a gasket which is relatively strong and durable, which is adapted to prevent back fire from passing to the carbureter or beyond the gasket, which is capable of withstanding the impact of the explosion incident to back firing, which may be economically manufactured, and which may quickly and easily be applied to gas engines of various types.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an intercepting member with perforations therein for breaking up the incoming fuel admixture into fine streams and insuring the more intimate mixing of the air and fuel vapor, and to form such a member integral with the body portion of the gasket for withstanding the pressure and wear incident to its use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a packing gasket of this character which is adapted to increase the power of a gas engine by insuring the proper admixture of the fuel and air which is fed thereto, which is adapted to reduce the formation of carbon in the engine, which is adapted to facilitate starting of the engine, and which is incidentally adapted to economize in the consumption of fuel.
With these and further objects in view as will in part hereinafter become apparent and in part be stated, the invention comprises .certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as subsequently specified and claimed.

Referring to the drawing by numerals, 10 and 11 designate pipe sections or conduit parts of the intake of an internal combus- 131011 engine, and the member 10 may be the outlet of the carbureter'while the member 11 may be the adjacent end of a manifold. The members 10 and 11 have flanges 12 and 13 in the usual manner adapted to be clamped together by the usual bolts 14. The gasket of this invention comprises a body portion or plate 15, which, as shown in detail in Fig. 2, is of a marginal configuration similar to that of the flanges 12 and 13 and which is provided at its intermediate por-- tion with a plurality of perforations 16 spaced apart a distance substantially equal to the diameters of the perforations and through which the admixture of air and fuel vapor is adapted to pass. The area of the perforations 16 is relatively large, and beyond this area the plate is provided with segmental slots or openings 17 adapted to receive the correspondingly formed lu 18 bent from a face plate 19. The plate 19 is of similar configuration to that of the plate 15 and the plates 15 and 19 are adapted to engage against the inner opposite faces of the flanges 12 and 13, and a sheet or intermediate plate 20 of asbestos or the like is fitted between the body plate 15 and the face plate 19, and held thereto by the lugs 18 which project into the recesses 17. The plates 19 .and 20 have central openings therethrough equal substantially to the size of the opening through the members 10 and 11 and the lugs 18 are struck from the inner marginal edge of the plate 19 and are adapted to pass through the openings of the asbestos plate 20 and be turned over against the exterior surface of the body plate 15 for uniting the three plates. It will also be noted that all of the plates are provided with openings 21 through their opposite ends for receiving the bolts 14 therethrough. While it is preferable to use the three plates connected together as above described, it is readily ap reciated that the body late 15 may be emp oyed alone and clampe between the flanges of the carbureter and the manifold to position the erforated or fuel mixing member across t e intake passage of the engine. It will be particularly noted that the perforated member is in the form of an integral plate which may be punched or drilled to prove the re uired openings and that the plate may be 0 substantial thickness and provides a relatively wide marginal body portion to ably support its perforated portion and thus provide a strong and durable device which cannot be readily injured during installation, removal, or incident to 'the back pressure caused by back firing in the engine.
When the engine is in operation the fuel is drawn from the carbureter to the manifold in the usual manner. The fuel passes through the perforations 16 in the body plate 15 and is thus broken up into a plurality of fine streams which effect the thorough and intimate contact of the air and vaporized fuel, providing a va or of thoroughly mixed fuel and air which will decrease carbon deposits in the engine and a more thorough combustion of the mlxture with the result of increasing the proportionate power of the engine with a minimum consumption of the fuel.
I claim A gasket as specified comprisin a pair of plates and an intermediate pac 'ng sheet 40 arranged between the plates, one of said plates having an integral perforated central portion and the other plate and packing sheet having a central opening in register with the perforated portion of the first plate,
through said apertures and to be turned over against the outer face of the plate through which the lugs pass for holding the plates together with the packing sheet the-rebetween, said plates and sheet having registering openings for receiving clamping bolts i when the gasket is disposed between a carbureter and manifold.
