To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. MARR, a citizen of the United States, and resident .of borough of Brooklyn, county of K ngs, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Caps.
The object of this invention is to prov de a sanitary cap for the nipple of a nursing bottle and one that may be placed over the nipple during such time as the bottle 1s not in use, or in the process of feeding. t
The principal object of this inventlon 1s to provide a readily attachable and detachable cap, one that will be air, dust and leakproof and that will prevent the contents of the bottle from leaking regardless of the position in which the bottle may be placed and will so enclose the nipple that germs or foreign matter cannot reach the nipple when the-cap is in place.
Another important object is to provide a device cheap in construction and easy of operation and one that can be thoroughly sterilized after each operation or at any time, and with these objects in view the ,following is what I consider a good means of carrying out the invention and the accom-' panying drawings should be referred to for a complete understanding of the specification which follows.

In Figure 1, the nursing bottle is indicated at 3. The bottle may obviously be of any shape or size as the particular shape or size of the bottle performs no especial function in relation to my device. The nipple 4,.is of rubber and may also be of a standard shape or size and these nipples, are usually provided with an enlar ed portion or flange 5 adapted to engage an to secure the nipple upon the neck of the bottle. The bottle itself is provided with 'a flange 6 at the mouth thereof and the flange distorts the nipple when the nipple is in place on the bottle.
The cap 7 is formed with a somewhat conical body portion and an enlarged annular portion or flange 8 formed integral therewith. This flange produces what is commonly called a petticoat adapted to extend downwardly over the projection of the bottle and the nipple thereon and formed integral -with the flange or petticoat 8, are fingers 9 which are bent slightly inwardly and then upward to provide engaging means adapted to engage under the projection 6 of the bottle and to secure the cap in position. I prefer that the material employed in the construction of my cap should be sheet aluminum, but any other suitable material may be utilized. The material should, however, have some spring or elasticity to allow it to be engaged and disengaged readily. The number of fingers or projections 9 may be varied but I have shown four such projections and. I have given to these projections considerable area so that they will not cut the rubber of the nipple 'when bein placed upon or removed from the bottle. I call particular attention to the size and dimensions of the petticoat 8 which should not extend beyond the portion 6 of the bottle.
I also call particular attention to the fact that. the upwardly bent portion 10 and the petticoat 8 bear upon'the nipple and upon the bottle through the nipple, thus the nipple does serve as an efiicient gasket between the cap and bottle, sealing the nipple in place.
The shape and relative position of the.
springs 9 snapping over the projection 6 assures that the cap will be held firmly upon the gasket formed by the body of the mpple.
