To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J; ZINI, a citizen of the United States, residing at (Jhicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Im provements in Sediment-Containing Bottle Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a bottle cap structure designed for" use in connection with bottles employed for containing various kinds of beverages, and an'object of the invention is to provide a cap structure designed for forming an air tight closure for the bottle and also to support the bottle in an inverted position, the said cap being hollow to receive and contain any sediment from the beverage so as to permit the beverage to be poured from the bottle free from the sediment.
Another object of this invention is to provide a bottle cap as specified which embodies means for securely clamping the cap in proper place upon a bottle, said means being releasable to permit the cap to be swung to one side of the mouth of the bottle for permitting the emptying of the contents of the bottle.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bottle cap which may be associated with any approved type of bottle commonly used for containing various types of beverages.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a bottle having the improved cap attached thereto and showing the bottle supported in an inverted position by the cap.
Fig. 2v is a side elevation of a bottle showing the improved cap moved to permit dis-- pensing of the beverage from the bottle.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, a bottle A, of any approved type of bottle, commonly used for containing various types of beverages, is provided to which the improved sediment retaining cap 1 is attached. The sediment retaining cap 1 comprises the body 2 formed of glass or any suitable material being hollow and having a relatively large supporting end 3 which.

The rim lO has a pair of diametrically opposed cut out portions 11 formed therein through which the legs of the connecting member extend. The terminals of the legs of the connecting member 8 are bent toward each other, providing relatively short transverse portions 12 which engage through the eyes 13 formed in the clamping member '14. The clamping member 14 is pivotally connected to the bottle by means of the attaching wire 15 which.
pivotally supports the, clamping member, the said member being connected-to the wire in any suitable manner that it, acting-upon the ends 12 as fulcrums will securelyclamp the cap 1 against the mouth B of the bottle, clamping the gasket tightly in place and forming an air tight closure for the bottle.'
By moving the. handle portion 16 0f the clamping member '14 towards the mouth of the bottle as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawi ings, the pressure on the capwill be released permitting the cap to be swung to oneside pouring of the contents from the bottle.
In use, the various types of beverages such as contain sediments are placed in the bottle, the bottle is inverted being supported by the cap structure 1, and during such in-' verted'movement all sediment in the beverage will settle down into the cap body 2 passing through the central opening 17 in the gasket 6 thereby freeing the beverage from sediment. The gasket 6 will act to retard return movement of the sediment into the bottle when the bottle is righted to permit pouring of the contents therefrom. In case beverages such as root beer, ginger ale or the like are placed in the bottle, which beverages do not have a sediment but on the tops of which a scum forms the use of the improved cap will permit the bottle to be filled prac tically to the top so that the scum which gathers will be forced into the bottle cap 1 thereby permitting the beverage to be poured from the bottle free from scum when the body 2 is removed from a closing position.
The angled ends 12 are removably seated in the eyes 13, so as to permit disconnection of the cap structure 1 from the bottle A, to permit sterilizing or thorough cleansing of the cap structure and it is to be understood that in re-using of the bottle, the gasket 6 which may be of rubber, cork or the like, may be changed at a very small expense.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in other manners and the parts-associated in other relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim;
1. As a new article of manufacture, a sediment containing bottle cap comprising a hollow having a relatively large supporting end, a bottle mouth engaging end, an annular flange formed about said cap, a connecting member extending partly about said cap and abuttingsaid flange, and a clamping member connected to said connecting mem ber.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a sediment containing bottle cap comprising a hollow having a relatively large support/in end, a bottle mouth engaging end, an annular flange formed about said cap, said flange provided with cut away portions, a substan ially U-shaped connecting member having its bight portion extending partly about said cap and abutting said flange, the. legs of said connecting member extending through said cut away portions, and a clamping member connected to said connecting member.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a sediment containing bottle cap, comprising a hollow body having a relatively large supporting end, a bottle mouth engaging end, said bottle mouth. engaging end being provided with a gasket seat, a gasket on said seat, an annular flange formed about said cap at the end provided with said gasket seat, a connecting member extending about said cap and abutting said flange, and a clamping member connected to said connect ing member.
