Patented Dec 19, 1922;
UNITED TA PATENT;- OFFICE,-
.J'ACOB sum, or new 2031:, 1v. Y.
I nnrnnn GARMENT.
Application filed A pr111 7, 1920. Serial No. 374,622, .7
Be it known that I, JACOB STEIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident ofthe city'of'New .York, in. the boroughof Manhattan and county and State of Newof the present invention to construct a nether garment of the character described in which provision is made for protectlng and shielding the upper clothing of the wearer.
Another object of the present lnventlon is to provide in combination wlth the diaper protector, means for protect ng the upper clothing of the wearer and in wh1ch said means also functions as a supporter for the diaper cover.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a. garment of the character described which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and which 1s strong, durable and efiiclent for the purpose for which it is intended.
With these and other objects in view, some of which will be more apparent hereafter, reference is made to the following description, claims-and accompanying drawin s, in which igure 1 is a perspective vlew of the garment illustrating the application of the same.
Figure 2 is a similar view of the garment removed.
Figure 3 is a, fragmentary perspective view of a slightly modified form of the in vention.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference which denote like parts throughout the several vlews thereof, 10
Y designates a diaper cover of standard construction which is provided with the crotch flap 11 and the side flaps 12 which are secured to eachother by buttons 13. The protective bib 14: which is secured to the rear of the wearer,
a lying posupper edge of the diaper cover or for'med as an ntegral part thereof is preferably constructed of rubberized. c oth or fabric similar to the material from which the diaper so cover properis made. 'In the preferred embod ment of the invention the said bib is In thenature of an extension having a head recelvin opening 15, the free extremity 16 thereof sides of the openingsiconstituting shoulder straps 17, as clearly lllustrated in Figure l of the drawings. 'llhe extremity 16 has E5 pair of elastic straps 18,
secured thereto a the free ends of which are secured to a tab 19 provided with a button hole 20, adapted to button over the upper-button 13 of the diaper cover to maintain the bib 14 in place and support the front of By th1s arrangement it will be obvious that w en the child is in a lying posture, dampness which overflows the diaper cover will be prevented from penetrating and reaching the upper portion of the voutside clothing at the back thereof. It will be alsoobserved that the bib and the tab attached thereto by the elastic straps serves as a perfect support for-the diaper cover.
' In the modified form illustrated in Figure. t
3 of the drawings, the free extremity 16 is provlded with side straps 21 which button as at 22 to the" rear side edges of the bib 14 and which underlie the arms to provide an additional means for retaining the edges,
of the bib 14 in operative contact with the body of the wearer to prevent leakage. While there has been illustrated and described several preferred embodiments of the invention, it is understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise details of construction as changes and alterations, which are covered by the appended claim? may be resorted to when found expedient.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a diaper cover, of an extension secured medially of the rear upper edge of said diaper cover constituting a moisture proof bib adapted to protect the rear upper portion of the clothing of the child when in lying posture, and a pair of elastic straps for connecting the front upper edge of the diaper cover to the free end of sad extension to retain the extension in proper position. i
eing adapted tolie over the chest 65 the material defining the the diaper cover. 75
