Description

June 12, 1923.
C. M. BEALE COLLAR RETAINING DEVICE Fi led July 14, 1922 INVENTOR 6 ATTORNEY Patented June 12,1923.
T E S CHARLES MARTIN BEALE, 0F MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
COLLAR-RETAINING DEVICE.
Application filed July 14, 1922. Serial No. 574,948.
' collar buttons, for detachably connecting the band of the collar with the neck band of the garment and a device which may be readily applied by the pressure of the finger without damage to the fabric.
A still further object is to provide a device having the character of'a double clip formed of resilient material.
Vith the Lb0"e and other objects'in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of elements described and claimed, it being understood that modifications may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an edge view of the device, as it appears when connected with a collar and collar band; Figure 2 is a perspective view of the retaining device, of itself; Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the devicein use, a portion of the collar to be secured being broken away.
The device is formed of any suitable resilient material. and may be enameled or plated with nickel, silver or gold, as determined by the selling price. A single flat strip of metal having a width of a half inch, or less, is bent to form the three principal elements 10, 11 and 12, the portion 11 belng intermediate of the members 10 and 12.
' In order that firm hold maybe obtained,
the member-s 10 and 12 are deflected slightly,
so as to nearly touch the surface of member i 11, at the points shown, before the device is applied. v I A double clip is thus produced, and in one of the loops the band of the collar is engaged and in the other loop the shirt band is engaged. Several of these devices may be applied and usually at least one will be employed on each side of the rear collar button and between this point/and the front of the neck band. The collar is thus prevented from slipping up from the neck band, and
the correct position of the collar is assured.
It will be observed that the elements or jaws 10 and 12 are reversely arranged, and although the entire device has very little thickness, members 10 and 12 are slightly defiected with reference to the central portion 11. The jaws and central portion are in fact each slightly deflected in the form of a compound curve, the edge of one of the jaws being turned outwardly-toward the outer fold of a collar, and the edge of the other jaw being turned inwardly,in position for engaging the inner lower edge of a collar hand, when the device is in position for holding the collar.
Having thus described the invention I claim:
A fastener, comprising a central portion,
