EIJGIE, ASSIGNGB OF ONE-HALE TO 'WELLIAI'I KOENIG, OF MUREHYSIBORD, ILLINGIS.
Iw'IAlL BOX.
Application fled April 10,
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that 1, AUGUST Konnie, a citizen of the United States, residing at Murphysboro, in the county 01:" Jackson and the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mail Boxes, of which the following is aspecification.
T his invention relates to that type of mail boX used generally on rural routes, mail being both collected and deposited by the carrier, and also by the owner of the box.
The object of the invention is a box which can be conveniently used by the carrier without his dismounting from-his vehicle.
The invention consists in the novel teatures of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical tion, the box being closed.
igure 2 is a similar section, the box being open.
Figure 3 is an end elevation.
Figure l is a vertical, transverse tic-n.
In the rawing 1 designates the box having a cover 2, these being of the usual size and shape. The frontend of the cover portion, as shown 3,is inwardly offset with respectto the front end 4 ot' the body portion of the box.
The space between these end portions forms a letter drop, said space being -nornially closed by a hinged lid 5 which works in said drop opening and in closed position is in Contact with both the end members and 4, as shown in Figure 1. This lid is z 7/ shown in closed position in Figure 3. To open it the lower end is lifted up and the lid swings back into the box leaving a space below it through which letters can be dropped.
Within the b0 and to each ably secured segmental links nally slotted as at 'Z, the lin rs slide on pins 8 carried by-the box sides. Curved links 9 are pivctally connected at 10 to the free ends of the links 6, and to the free ends ot the links 9 are connected rods 11 Which in turn are slidably connected to vertically arranged brackets 12 carried by the inner side of the frontwall 4:.
longitudinal secside are slid- 6 long1tudi- 1922. Serial H0. 551,200.
A drawer 13 is slidably placed in the bottom 0:" the box 1 and the pivot pins 10 connecting the links 6 and 9 are secured to the sides of said drawer or tray. In other words the pins 0 on which the links 6 slide and which guide pins are fixed to the box, while the pins 10 which are pivotal points for both sets of links are lined to the drawer. A linger grip 14 is carried by the front end of the drawer and projects out dly beyond the bottom out the box 1. jlQJZlCGHt the front end of the drawer is placed a spring metal plate 15, fixed to the front 01 the drawer at one end, but slightly spaced from it, and pressed the other end toward the end of the drawer by a s ring 15 The plate 15 co-operating with the L org iront end member of the drawer forms a .ctter clip or holder, within easy reach of :ne carrier.
T he usual signal indicator 1-6 is carried by one side of the box. Under normal cond ions the parts assume the position shown 1 s the drawer is pulled 6 and 9 12, lift the hinged Figure 2.
1 i ure but he lli'L-f, tie brackets I 4, as shown in What I claim is: 1 a mail b X, a body portion, a drawer, ged front member, pins carried by tire of the drawer, links connected to said and turning thereon, means connecting 'tion ct said links to the hinged front. d guides car *ied by the box and i. V152; movement oi the other lii rs, 2.1 d for the purpose set forth.
n mail box, a front member hinged slidable drawer having a pull re ecting beneath said hinged end, us carried within the box and to sides of same, curved slotted links on said pins, a set 01 oppositely ks arranged within and at the the drawer, common pivot pins for sets of links, vertical brackets carried U inner face of the front end member,
rods connected at one end to the second set of links and slidably connected at their opposite ends to said brackets, respectively.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
AUGUST KOENIG.
