Be it known that I, ABMIN Enmnnonr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Means of Joining Metal- Sheathed Boards Arranged Edge to Edge, and declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description 0% the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, mi
erence being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has for its object to produce a simple and novel means for fastening metal-sheathed boards together while arranged edge to edge, min the metal sheathing for this purpose and insuring that all exposed surfaces will be metallic.
The various features of novelty whereby my invention is characterized will hereinafter he pointed out with particularity in the claims; but, for a full understanding of my invention and of its object and advantages, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a transverse section through two metal-sheathed boards adapted to be connected together edge to edge, showing the forms given them to permit the connection to be made;
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the first step in the process of making the connection between the boards;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 illustrating the second step in the process of fastenin the boards together, the two edges having. n brought in contact with each other;
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing the third step in the fastening process;
ig. 5 is a section similar-to Figs. 1 to 4, showing the completed joint.
' Referring to the first five figures of the drawings, 1 and 2 represent the core members of two metal-sheathed boards, the member 1 having metal sheets or facings, 3 and 4, on opposite sides thereof while the memher 2 is similarly provided with metal sheathings, 5 and 6, on opposed faces. rial in the form of sheets or boards of any desired thickness and of any desired number of layers, while the metal sheathings may have any desired thickness and be fastened' to the cores in any desired way, preferably by being cemented thereto'with a waterproof glue. The sheathing members 3 and 4 are extended beyond the edge of the core as indicated at 7 while the sheathing members 5 and 6 are extended beyond the edge of the core to which they are attached, the extensions or flanges, 8, being narrower than the extensions or flanges The extensions or flanges 7 and 8 are first bent laterally in opposite directions as shown in Fig. 2. The two boards are then placed together with the flanges in contact with each other and the outer marginal portions of the flanges 7 are bent over the top and down beside the members 8 as shown in Figs. 3 and 4' respectively. Thus, there are formed three-ply ribs or projections on opposite faces of the work and these are then bent downwardly so as to I lie flat as shown in Fi 5.
It will thus be seen tEat I have produced a simple and novel construction and arrangement of parts which will permit the formation of simple flat panels out of a plurality of pieces of metal-sheathed board, the building of smooth-faced walls or signs supported by posts or the like which serve also as joint members, or the formation of shells of cylindrical or othershapes.
While I have illustrated and described only a few forms of my invention, I do not deslre to be limited to the s cific details thus illustrated and describe but intend to cover all forms and arrangements which come within the terms employed in the definitions of my invention constituting the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination, edge to edge and engaged with each other at the meeting edges, each board having glued thereto a metal sheathing element, said metal sheathing elements being extended laterally of the boards at said meetmg c flanges in engagement with each other.
