' To all whom it may concern:
' shaping the upper lip Kansas,
Be it known that'I, M. MONTEA- .LEGRE,
at Iola,
HA z L in the county of Allan and State of haveinvented a new and useful Device for Shaping the Upper Lip, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to devices for reof a person, and has for its object the revision of a simple and easily applied device to re-shape the upper lip of a person to conform to what is known as the Cupids bow, whereby it is unnecessary to resort to a surgical operation to produce this efiect.
'A full and complete understanding of the invention. may be obt "ned from a consid- 'eration of the following detailed description, taken'in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification; it being understood that while the drawing shows a practical form of the invention, the latter is not to be confined to strict conformity with the showing thereof, but may be changed or modified, so long as such changes or modifications 'mark no material departure the invention, as specifically pointed out in member inserted ,the appended claims. I
In the drawing:-" I Fig. ldiscloses the head of a person with my improved lip'shaping device connected to the upper lip;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in horizontal section of the lip-forming means, Fig. 3 is alongitudinal section of the de- 'ce about to be applied to an upper lip;
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the same with the device applied in shaping relation, toanupper lip. f Y Fig. 5 is,a view in perspective of a fication of my im roved hpshapin Referrin to t e are, 1 in icates a y mem er having which is slidably mounte a spring member re-bent"uponitself at an intermediate point, as shown at 4, to form two arms 4 and a loop, to which is attached an operating handle 5, the rje,-bent portion 4 of the spring through a. slot- 6 in one end of" the guide 2 is spaced rom the body member a greater distance than the guide 3.
' The outer free ends 7 and 8 of the spring member divergie outwardly, so that as they are drawn wit in the guide '2 formed on the -to the shape of a lip The upper from the salient features of 'pull on the handle 5.
-rocated. through the openin es 2 and 3, in
o crating handle 5. ,The edge" of. the upper ii I V i b'ovflif the lip. The liandlejo-is then gently pulledrearwardly whereby the jaws 9 and end of the body 1, by an outward pull on-the r e guide 2 citizen of thekUnited States, residingwill tend to draw the free ends 7 and 8 handle 5, the inclined sides of t closer together to cause the pads or jaws 9 and 10, preferably formed of rubber and respectively located on said free ends of the spring member, tral portion of the lip at op osite points and cause a depression in the as shown in Fig.- 4. When the'jaws 9 and 10 are properly clamped on the. lip, an eccentric lever 11 pivotally mounted in a bracket 12 on the body 1, will cause the eccentric 13 to grip the springarms 4 and maintain them in place, when the free end of the lever is moved downwardly and rests upon the guide 3.
Upon the outer end of the base plate 1 is provided a matrix or former conforming of the well-known type of Cupids bow, and it comprises flaring spaced members 14 and 15, provided with curved concave grooves 16 merging centrally of the former into an opening 17. lip is adapted to be forced into the grooves and maintained in shaping relation with the same when the 'aws 9 and 10 are locked on the up er lip y a gentle e arms 4 and the jaws 9 and 10 are locked inthis position by the lever 11. As shown in Figs. 2, 3 and member is adapted to be recip- 17 provided in and etween the flare 15 of the matrix or 4, the spring the end of the body 1 ing members 14 and former.
In applying the been released from .ltS
position with the s ring member,
locking the the handle 5 is moved inwar y causing device tothe upper lip,- the lever 11 having to grip and contract the cenjaws 9 and 10 to move outwardly. from the matrix or former, so that the diverging ends 7 and 8 of. the spring member will move apart by reason of the resiliency of the arms of the spring member, and. also by reason of the fact that the opening 17 is flared out- "wardly. The 1 jaw's are spread sufliciently apart so that jaw 10 will engage the underside of the upper lip, while t ages a direct y opposite point 'on the u per and centrally o the member are drawn reason of said ends moving inwardly through the flaring opening 17, while the lip itself is drawn inwardly into the curved concave grooves 16 of the outwardly flared members 14 and 15 of the matrix, as shown in Fig. 2. The bail 11 is then locked on the arms 4.
By my new and improved device, I not only cause a depression to be formed in the upper surface and centrally of the upper lip, but the upper lip will be drawn into shaping relation with the matrix whereby the upper lip will eventually be changed to the form of the wellknown Cupids bow;
In the modification disclosed in Fig. 5, upon'the base member l is pivotally mounted a clamping member 18 having a manipulating thumb piece 19 pressed upwardly by means of a coil spring 20 which is connected etween the thumb piece 19 and the outer end 21 of the base member 1 the outer end of the base member being enlarged for the a purpose.
' tion 27 of the clamp 18 The other end of .the base member 1 is bifurcated, thereby forming two arms 22 and 23, and between .which the clamping member 18 is pivoted on the pin 24.
Upon the outer ends of the arms 22 and 23 of the base member are formed right and left lip forming members 14: and 15*, which together provide a matrix conforming in the shape of a lip of the well known type of Gupids bow. lhecurved-lip clamping poris adapted to be 0scillated between the lip forming members 14. and 15 and force the central portion of the lip between the said members 14 and 15 and form a depression in the lip which is typical of the well known form referred to above.
The lip forming members 14 and 15 are connected to the reduced portion of the arms 22 and 23 and extend upwardly at substantially right angles to said arms, having their greatest height adjacent the arms 22 and 23 and receding outwardly towards their ends in a materially reduced portion conforming to the portions of the lips which are adjacent to the corners of the mouth. In applying the modified form disclosed in Fig. 5 to the upper lip, the thumb piece 19 is epressed, thereby raising the curved lip gripping portion 27, whence the members 14: and 15 are pressed firmly against the upper lip while the thumb piece 19 is released, causing the curved lip gripping portion 27 of the clamp 18 to depress the central portion of the lip in the space located between the lip forming members 14 and 15. Sufficient applications of the device tothe upper lip will produce a lip of the well known tydescribed as Cupids bow.
