UNITED STATES PATENT oFFicE.
WILLIAM T. SHERER, OF EVANSTON, ILLINOIS.
snow oAsE.
Application filed September 11, 1922. Serial No. 587,291.
To f/.ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WELLAM T. SHERER, a citizen of the United States, residin at Evanston, in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Show Cases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in show cases and has for one object to provide a show case having an adjustable shelf which may be slid in and out without'interfering with the adjustment andwithout disturbing the articles supported or displayed on the shelf. Another object is to provide an adjustable guide or support for the shelf which will permit transverse movement of the shelf without interfering with its support and which will hold the shelf against movement up or down. Another object is to provide an adjustable guide and support for show case shelves. Other objects will appear from time to time in the specification.
My invention is illustrated more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 shows a show case with my shelf support in place. j
Figure 2 is a section along line 2-2 of Fi ure 1.
igure 3 is a detail of the supporting track.
Figure 4 is a section through a modified form of support.
Like parts are indicated bylike characters throughout the specification. and drawings.
The show case is provided with an end panel A and transverse members A Az holding a 'top panel of glass or other suitable material A, a front panel of glass or other suitable material A4 and is provided on its rear side with the slidin doors A.
B, B are vertically isposed perforated ladders, the perforations B', B belng adapted to be engaged bythe lugs B2 on the channel BS or track B". The ladder is spaced away from the member A. so as to give room for the lugs B2 to move and the track is locked in position by inserting it as shown in the lower part of Figure 2 and allowing it to rotate into the position shown in the upper part of Figure 2. When in such position the lug is limited in the outward and downward movement by its engagement with the perforations B. B5 is a shelf adapted to slide in the channel B3. B is a shelf having a flange B7 forming a slot adapted to channel or track and when in position shown in Fi ure l, the shelf is held so as to not drop own because any tendency toward rotation or dropping down of the outer portion of the shelf is resisted by the track whichy in turn is held in place by the supporting lugs.
The use and operation of my inventionl are as follows:
The channels or tracks which support the ends of the show case shelf are provided with outwardly bent lugs to engage the perforations in the adjusting ladder. The channel or track is inserted 1n the show case in a generally horizontal position. The lugs are thrust into the openings of the ladder and the channel or track is rotated through an angle of 90 to a vertical working position. The shelf is then slid or guided either along the track or within the channel. l
The lugs supporting the channel hold it up and resists movement either in an upward or downward direction unless the channel is rotated -for disengagement. The en gagement of the shelf with the channel prevents such rotation and therefore the adjustable support member can not be displaced without complete withdrawal of the shelf. In using the show case the shelf may be withdrawn along the channel until the front edge is well removed from the frontwall of the show case and still engagement of the shelf and channel will hold the shelf against rotation. This makes it possible for aligned apertures, shelf supporting tracks adapted to be lremovably and adjustablysupported upon said vertical supports, sup- I porting meansfor said tracks comprising inwardly and upwardly projecting lugsv formed upon said tracks and adapted to penetrate saidapertures, said lugs kconstituting means for holding said tracks against longitudinal movement in relation to said supports. there being shelves slidably mounted on said tracks and means for maintaining said shelves parallel with said tracks, when partially Withdrawn therealong. A
2. In a shelf assembly, a plurality of vertical supports provided'with vertically aligned apertures, shelf supporting channel WILLIAM T. SHERER.
