WILLIAM J. COLEMAN,
OE ULEVLND, DHIO.
,FARE HOLDER.
Application led June 21,
To all whom t may conce/ra:
Be it known that I, W'ILLIAM J. COLEMAN, a citizen olf ther United States, residing at 1811 E. 55th St., Cleveland, in the State ot Chio and Cuyahoga County, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fare Holders, of which the following is a speciiication, the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which I have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it from other inventions.
My invention pertains to a fare holder and more particularly to a pocket container adapted to carry a series of street railway tickets in an abutting edge arrangement as well as a series of coins likewise disposed in a. row.
@ne object ot my invention is to yfacilitate the payment of a rare by tendering ticket and the payment of a coin, usually a cent, as an additional charge for a transfer; the invention being designed to permit ot the simultaneous withdrawal ont a ticket and coin. By its use by passengers a convene ience to both passenger and conductor will he realized, as well as a` saving in time in loading or unloading passengers thereby reducing the time schedule. Another object is a provision ot an article ot the character stated which will be of durable though very cheap construction and which by reason ot its very low cost ot manufacture will enable it to be employed as an advertising medium for gratuitous distribution.
Adverting to the drawing:
Figure is an elevation oit one side of a rare holder embodying my invention.
Figure il is a similar view of the opposite sident my :tare holder.
Figure HI is a. section taken on line lll-lll of Figure I.
Figure IV is an enlarged section on line 1V lV or Figure Il.
The holder may be satisfactorily constructed ot a plurality of cardboard strips ailixed to each other in any appropriate manner., In the exemplitication shown by the drawing live pieces of cardboard are glued together. f
A middle piece of cardboard is to constitute a backing member against opposite sides ot' which a series o1"- tickets and coins will rest respectively. As shown the member l 1922. Serial No. 569,782.
- is ot substantially rectangular shape having one side oi the member l is a il shaped strip 3 having inner substantially parallel delining edges Ll and a lower connecting edge 5 which will serve as the bottom of the coin receptacle or channel as will hereinafter appear. rlhe thickness ot the piece 8 should equal or slightly exceed the thickness of the coins C to be used. rihe distance between the inner edges l likewise should equal or slightly exceed the diameter or the coins. Cverlying the piece 3 is another U shaped cardboard strip @likewise of the same dimensions overall as that ot the pieces l and 3 but fashioned with a narrower and somewhat shorter rectilinear slot having opposed edges .7 closer to each other than are the edges ll. Above, the strip 6 is similarly cut out at 8. is will now be readily understood, a channel or coin receptacle is provided by the pieces l, 3 and 6 in conjunction with eachother and as will be evidenced upon inspection olf Figure I.
Abutting and aliizred to the opposite yside ol the piece l is a U shaped strip 9 having its slot l() wider than the distance between the edges l and in tact wide enough to acn commodate a row of street railway tickets T. An edge ll which defines the bottom of the slot l() will limit the insertion movement of the lowermost ticket. The distances between the opposed substantially parallel inneredges 12 of the strip 9 should slightly exceed the lengthk ot the ticket which the holderis designed to carry. ln turn overlying the strip 9 is another U shaped strip 13 having both a narrower and shorter slot le whereby langes are provided parallel to and` spaced 'from the backing member l and forming a conjunction therewith a channel lfor the reception of a plurality of tickets.
It will be apparent that two lingers or a passenger when pressed one against a ticket and the other against a coin will enable one ot each to be simultaneously Iwithdrawn lengthwise ot' the holder. A user or my device can always conveniently locate both his tickets and his transfer coin and will 'not have to wait for the conductor to make change thereby avoiding the congestion fremesser ted il shaped structures partially covering one side of said member and forming in con junction therewith a channel.
3. A. fare holder comprising an elongated hacking ineinher, and a pair of structures each eon'lpesed or' laminated sheets and each forming in conjunction with one side of said ineinber a channel to provide spaced portions adapted to engage opposite sides of articles inserted in said channels.
Signed by nie, this 31st day of May, 1922.
