UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMANUEL ROLSKY. OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
COMBINED BOTTLE-CAP REMOVER AND RECEIVER.
' Application filed July 17,
T 0 all whom it may cmwern:
Be it known that I, EMANUEL ROLSKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Bottle-Cap Removers and Receivers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combination bottle cap remover and receiver and one object is to provide a simple device of this character whereby caps may be quickly removed from bottles without damage to the latter and upon such removal will fall into the receiver instead of on the floor Where they would constitute an annoyance to the dispenser.
A further object is to produce a device of this character which is'formed from one piece of sheet metal thereby forming a substantial unitary device at minimum cost.
Other objects will hereinafter appear and in order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the device.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the device.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line IIIIII of Fig. 1 with the upper portion of a bottle in position for the removal of its cap.
Fig. 4c is a reduced plan view of the blank from which the device is formed.
In carrying out the invention, I stamp or otherwise form from one piece of sheet metal. a front wall 2 having a relatively large opening 4, a rear wall 6 having a smaller opening 8 and a tongue 10, side walls 12, and a bottom wall 14. The side walls 12 converge towards their upper ends and have marginal lugs 16 to enter corresponding slots 18 in the rear wall 6 adjacent to its longitudinal margins. The upper ends of the side walls 12 terminate in, substantially. pointed portions 17. The bottom wall 14 has lugs 20 adapted to enter corresponding slots 22 in the rear wall 6 adjacent its transverse margin.
After the blank has been formed as above described it is bent along the dotted lines, Fig. 4. to bring the rear wall 6 at the rear of the front wall 2, the longitudinal margins of the side walls 12 against the rear wall 6, the longitudinal margin of the bottom wall 14 against the rear wall 6 and the transverse margins of said bottom wall 14 1922. Serial No. 575,699.
against the lower portions of the side walls 12. The lugs 16 and 20 are then passed through the slots 18 and 22, respectively, and upset to securely hold the margins of the walls together. Corrugations 24 are formci on the tongue 10 which -is also provided with a key-hole slot 26, so that it may be removably hung from a nail or equivalent support.
In practice, when the device is hung from a nail or other suitable support the caps of soda pop and other bottles can be quickly removed bypassing the upper portion of the bottle A through the opening 4 and placing the cap B against the corrugated portion 24 of the tongue 10 and the margin 28 of the opening 8, see Fig. 3. The bottle is then pressed downwardly whereupon the cap B is removed without breaking the bottie, and upon such removal falls into the receptacle which can be readily emptied through tlie opening 4. During the act of removing the cap B from the bottle the corrugations 24 constitute a slightly resilient abutment for the lower portion of the cap, so that there will be no danger of breaking or crumbling the mouth of the bottle A.
From the foregoing description it is apparent that I have produced a device embodying the advantages above pointed out,
and while I have shown and described the preferred construction, combination and arrangement of parts, I reserve the right to make such changes as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device of the character described formed from one piece of material and consisting of a cap remover and receptacle provided at its upper front portion with a relatively large opening to admit the upper portion of a bottle and provided at its upper rear portion with a smaller opening to admit a portion of a cap on the bottle whereby when the latter is pressed downwardly said cap is removed by engagement with the rear wall of the receptacle and the upper edge of the small opening and falls into the lower portion of the receptacle, substantially as described.
2. A unitary device of the character described consisting of a substantially rectangular receptacle closed at its top and having arelatively large opening in its front Wall and a smaller openingin its upper rear portion, a resilient tongue struck from the back of said receptacle forming the rear wall of the smaller opening and an abutment for a portion of a ca on a bottle whereby after the upper portion of the latter has been passed into the large opening to engage the cap with said tongue and one 1 edge of the smaller opening and then pressed downwardly the cap is removed and falls to the bottom of the receptacle, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature, 1n the presence of two witnesses EMANUEL ROLSKY. Witnesses: 1
F. O. FISCHER, L. J. FIsoHER.
