N. C. POWERS TEMPLATE FOR TRIMMING THE NECK Filed June 19 1924 Patented Nov. 25, 1924.
NICHOLAS C. POWERS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINQIS.
TEMPLATE FG'R TRIMMING THE NECK.
Application filed. June 19, 1924. Serial No. 720,917.
To all whom it may concern. 7
Be it known that I, Nrenonas C. Pownns, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the eountyoi Cook and State oi? Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Templates for Trimming the Neck, of which the follow ing is, when taken in connection with the drawing accompanying and forming a part hereof, a specification.
This invention. relates to a machine or device by means of which the hair on the back of the neck and head can be cut or trimmed on determined lines by the party using the machine or device, or by other parties not skilled in hair cutting or trimming.
Among the objects of the invention is to obtain a guide or shield which may be readily placed in position for trimming or cutting the hair to the contour lines of the template, by the person using the same, as where a razor is used for shaving the back of the neck, or by other persons, as in cases where a childs hair is to be trimmed by shears, by its parent. An additional object is to obtain a template of the kind named which can be used by persons whose heads vary in size. An additional object is to obtain a template of the kind named which is simple in construction, durable, not liable to become broken or to get out of order, and which is economically made.
have illustrated a template embodying the invention in the drawing referred to, in which Fig. 1 is a rear elevation of the head of a person using the template, showing said template in elevation, in position for use.
And Fig. 2 is a top plan view of a template emliodying the invention.
A reference character applied to designate a given part indicates said part throughout the several figures oi. the drawing wherever the same occurs.
1 represents the template, preferably made of sheet rubber, felt, or cloth. 2, 2, represent the contour lines of one side of the template, said side being used where what is termed a round trim or cut of the hair, is desired.-
3, 3, represent the contour line of the opposite side of the template, which is used when what is termed a square trim or cut is desired. 4, 4, represent apertures in template 1. 5, represents an elastic band, 6 represents a buckle on one end oi band 5,
and 7 represents a loop on the band adjacent to. the buckle 6. 8 represents the end. of the band 5 which is engaged with the buckle 6, to adjust the band to the head of the person using the machine or device; that portion of end S which extends beyond the buckle 6, when the band is adjusted, is extended through loop 7, in the ordinary way of using buckles for attaching one end of a belt to the opposite end thereof.
The band 5 is attached to template 1 by passing, extending or threading the end 8 of the band through the apertures 4, 4,
substantially as illustrated intlie drawing.
In Fig. 1 the machine or device is illustrated as adjusted and placed on the head of a person so that the contour line 2, 2, is in position to form a guide for the cutting or trimming of the hair to obtain a round trim or out. To place the machine or device so as to form a template or guide for what is termed a square cut or trim the position of contour lines 2, 2, and 3, 3, as illustrated in Fig. 1, is reversed, so that the contour line 3, 3, is in the same relative position to the head and neck that contour line 2, 2, occupies as illustrated in Fig. 1.
To obtain what is termed a feather edge trim or cut one of the contour lines of the template is made to correspond with the contour line of said feather edge trim.
This template is usable by men and children, and also by women and girls having short or bobbed hair. One of the principal uses to which the invention is designed to be put is to enable a parent to out the hair of a child and obtain a desired and regular contour line at the back of the head and neck; and this is attained"'by adjusting the machine or device on the head of the child so that by cutting or trimming the hair close to the contour line thereof the cut is determined androntrolled.
This template permits a travelling man, or a man in a place remote from a barber shop to use a razor, particularly a safety razor, on the back of his own neck and obtain a regular and desired contour line.
To use the device or machine the band or belt 5, which is preferably made of elastic material, as for instance woven material having rubber therein, and known as flat elastic, is adjusted as by means of buckle 6, so that said band is put under tension when the machine or device is placed and adjusted on the head. By this adjustment the vided with contour lines 011 opposite side edges thereof corresponding with the selected cut or trim desired, in combination with an elastic band by means of which said body is secured in an adjusted position relative to the back of the head and neck of a person, said body provided with apportures and said band attached to said body 20 by being extended through said apertures.
