TAGGING- DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES E. PULLIAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tagging Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in tagging devices and has for its object to provide a permanent tag for human beings having information stamped thereon as to the character of the person wearing the tag.

Another object of the invention is to 'provide an identification tag having means whereby it may be permanently attached to' the arm, limb or other portion of the body of the wearer.

With the aboveand other objects in view which will be hereinafter more fully explained, I have. invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:

Figure 1 is a view of the human arm showing my tag attached thereto;

Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure .2.

Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 indicates an identification tag which is formed with a body portion 2 having an arm 3 extending therefrom. This arm is provided with two longitudinal slits 4 and 5 forming eyes through which the attaching band 6 may be threaded whereby the tag will be secured to said balm 6.

On one end 7 of the band 6 is a lock clasp 8 consisting of a box 9 having closed ton and bottom walls 10 and 11 and closed side walls 12 and 13 and end walls 14 and 15 in which are provided adjacent the bottom wall 11, the slots 15 and 16 through which the end 17 of the band 6 may be projected. Pivotally mounted within the box or casing 8 upon'the pin 18 is a cam member 19 having a longitudinal flange 20 under which the said end 17 of band 6 is slidable in one direction. Said band being provided with transverse serrations 21 adapted to engage said edge 20 whereby the band cannot be \vitl1drawnfrom said casing 8 after once being inserted except through the breaking of saidcasing.

,jecting from The member 19 is pivoted with a substantially horizontal flange 22 held in normally raised position by means of the spring 23 whereby the member 19 is forced into engagement with the serrations 21. A wall 24 is provided in said casing adjacent the slot 15 with inclines toward said slot and has its lower edge projecting very close to the band 6 so that when said band is projected threunder, it becomes impossible to insert any instrument or device into the casing in order to raise the number 19 to release band 6.

Preferably, the above described device is to be made of thin sheet metal, both the tag and the .attaching band so thatit cannot be removed from the person of the wearer without mutilating same. However, if desired, it may be made of leather or other material. I

My idea in providing such a tag is in.

order that persons may be tagged with tags having various inscriptions 25 stamped thereon which inscriptions will indicate the character of the wearer. The tag may also be used in the army to identify the soldier wearing same in case of injury or death.

Having described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is: I

1. A device of the character described 1ncluding an identification tag having an arm and means whereby same may be permanently attached to the body of the wearer, said tag embracing a body portion adapted to receive identification marks, said arm projecting from said body portion, opposlng eyes provided in said arm to receive sald means. v
