HERMAN ALEXANDER NORTH, OF BOGrOTA, NEW JERSEY.
rao'rno'rrvn GARMENT;
Application filed April 17, 1923. Serial No. 632,701.
To 64% whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, HERMAN ALEXANDER NORTH, a citizen of the United States, and
a resident of Bogota in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Protective Garment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. 7
This invention relates to improvements in wearing apparel and has particular reference to a protective garment.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved garment particularly adapted for use by bank messengers and paymasters and is so constructed that large sums of money may be carried in the garment with comparative safety against theft.
Another object is to so construct the garment as to render it extremely difficult for unauthorized persons to secure access into the interior thereof.
A further object is to provide a garment of comparatively simple and inexpensive construction and which will be effective in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed.
The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detail description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of the interior of the garment, partly broken away and shown in section;
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view of the garment when in position on the body of the wearer; and
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
The garment is preferably constructed in the form of a vest including a back portion land the two front portions 5 adjoining said back portion. The meeting edges of the front portions 5 are doubled upon themselves to provide recesses for receiving the metallic reinforcing strips 6. One of the strips 6 is provided at intervals with apertures 7 for receiving hasps 8 carried by the other strip, to which hasps may be connected suitable'padlocks or other locking wearer as the chains 11 and 12 would of fectively prevent the garment being severed by attempting to cut the same with an implement, such asa knife or a pair of shears.
In order to carry money in the garment the back portion i'thereof has secured to its innersurface in any preferred manner two vertically arranged rows of receptacles or pockets 13 for receiving paper money or bills and each receptacle may be provided with an individual lock 14 of any desired character. rows of receptacles or pockets 13 each of the In addition to the two vertical front portions of the garment is provided with a row of pockets 15 of the same construction. Arranged along the bottom edge of the garment beneath the pockets 13 and 14 is another pocket 16 which extends practically the entire width of the garment and which is provided at each end thereof with a closure flap 17 having a suitable locking device 18. The pocket 16 is designed for the purpose of receiving coinswhich may be inserted into either or both ends of the pocket.
By thus providing a plurality of pockets into each of which bills or coins may be deposited and locked therein and by reinforcing the garment, as described, it will be evident that the garment will afford an effective protection against removal of the money by unauthorized persons and will, in any event, cause considerable delay 1n detaching the garment from the body of the wearer.
What is claimed is:
A protective garment in the form of a jacket having armholes and including a back portion and front portions, the latter of which have meeting edges, refractory metallic reinforcing elements enclosed in said meeting edges, means for locking said meeting edges together, flexible refractory metallic reinforcing elements extending along the entire top and bottom edges of said front and back portions so as to completely surround the edges of the garment, other flexible refractory metallic reinforcing elements embedded in the garment and 10 encircling said armholes, and a plurality of pockets on the inner surface of the garment.
HERMAN ALEXANDER NORTH.
