pad. of this invention is constructed of two leaves or. flaps, hinged. together so that one may be 'pivot'ally moved. relative to the other. The leaves are made relativelytlnn so that" when folded. together, the pad will lay perfectly fiat upon the table or desk top and support upon. its upper facea sheet of blotting pap erunaintained in position by corner pocketscarried' by tlie' upper flap or. leaf. The under side of the upper flap carries a calendar, postage rates, commercial travellers map, time tables, and, if desired, other useful information, while the top of the bottom flap may have printed or otherwise delineated thereon drawings or pictures, but preferably is divided up into advertising space. The means for liinging the two flaps together is preferably in the form of a fabric strip which serves to hinge the two flaps directly to one an-' other so that when the top flap is folded down, the pad will lie perfectly flat. This is the normal condition in use, but the top flap may be raised when the worker at the desk desires to obtain information from the material delineated on the bottom of the top flap, in which case the top flap is lifted to permit of access to said printed material.

At other times, important letters requiring early, though not immediate, attention might be slipped between two flaps to be handled as soon as the worker has the opportunity of doing so.

Features of the invention, other than those specified, will be apparent from the hereinafter detailed description and claim, when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

The accompanying drawings illustrate one practical embodiment of the invention, but the construction therein-shownis to be understood as illustrative, only, and not as defining the limits of the invention.

The top flap 1 is provided at its four corners with pockets 4, two of the corner pockets of which are shown in Figure 1 as extending over the interior of the top flap so as to permit papers to be engaged with and held thereby. The four corner pockets 4; provide at the top face of the top flap 1 means adapted to receive the four corners of a blotter 5 after the usual manner of supporting a blotter on a blotting pad, so that when the flaps are folded into the flat condition shown in Figure 2, a flat and compact pad results, capable of use in the pacted fiat condition of Figure 2. However, a person working at the desk or table on which the pad is employed can readily lift the top flap at any time to consult the calendar, postage rates, or other information carried on the under side thereof or may lift this flap for the purpose of slipping between the upper and lower flaps letters, 'bills, orders, or other papers which require early though not immediate attention. Papers thus slipped between these flaps are preserved in convenient and accessible position for and are concealed within the pad so that the desk or table is not littered up by such papers which the worker may, in the course of his labors, desire to lay aside temporarily.

The desk pad of the present invention is neat and compact in appearance, highly use ful and meritorious in use and simple, eflicient and economical in construction.

In the desk pad of the present invention, the leaves 1 and 2 may both be made the same size if desired, but I preferably make the leaf 2 slightly greater in length than the leaf 1, so that when the leaves are in normally folded condition, as shown in Figure 2, the rear portion of the leaf 2 will project beyond the rear edge of the leaf 1 and provide a projecting part 11, the upper surface of which is adapted to carry suitable advertising matter, which is visible when the leaves are in folded condition. This advertising space 11 is entirely independent of the leaf 1 with the upper face of which the blotters are associated, so that the advertising matter in nowise interferes with the normal use of the blotters.

I am aware that slight details of construction may be changed and that the information contained upon the interior faces of the pad may be varied without departing from this invention, which is to be understood as broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claim.

Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A desk pad embodying a rectangular bottom flap, a top flap substantially equal in width to the width of the bottom flap, but of less length than the top flap, means for pivotally securing the rear edge of the top flap to the bottom flap in such relative position that when the top flap is folded down, the front and lateral edges of the flaps will coincide, while a portion of the bottom flap will project beyond the rear edge of the top flap, printed and pictorial matter associated with the under side of the top flap and printed or pictorial matter associated with the top of the bottom flap, certain of which latter matter is concealed when the top flap is folded down and corner pockets positioned at the four corners of the top flap to receive the four corners of a blotter for supporting the blotter on the top face of the top flap.
