Description

June 9 1925.
F. TULAY CARRIER Filed March 16, 1923 Hank 7262291 Patented June 9, 1925.
UNITED STATES FRANK TULAY, or s'r. LOUIS, MIssoURr' CARRIER.
. Application filed March 16,1523. Serial No. 625,524.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK TULAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis City and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to a hospital appliance, and is in the nature of a device designed to serve as a carrier for glasses holding water or medicaments as well as clinic thermometers and whereby a nurse may conveniently convey such articles when visiting patients in the different wards of a hospital.
A further object is to produce a device of this character that shall be of a simple, cheap and ornamental construction.
The drawing which accompanies and which forms part of this application illustrates a satisfactory embodiment of the improvement reduced to practice.
In the drawing: 1
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary section, illustrating the manner'in which the handle is pivotally attached to the lower and intermediate plates.
As disclosed by the drawing my improvement comprises a plurality of superimposed plates to include a bottom plate 1, a top plate 2 and an intermediate plate 3. All of the plates may be of the same size, and each plate has its corners rounded inwardly to the center thereof. The plates are supported in superimposed relation by posts 4, any desired number of which being employed, four being shown in the drawing, one being arranged at each of the corners of the device. The top and intermediate plates 2 and 3 respectively are provided with round openings 5 arranged concentrically with respect to the rounded outer edges of the said plates. These openings are designed to receive glasses containing water or medicine therein, and preferably the openings in the intermediate plates 3 are of less area than the.
openings in the top plate 2.
The top andintermediate plates 2 and 3 p are provided with pluralities of spaced circumferentially arranged apertures 6 arranged concentrically with respect to the glass receiving openings 5, and these openings are designed to receive therethrough clinic thermometers.
The upper plate, at the center thereof is provided with a handle 7 whereby the holder may be conveniently carried by a nurse or other attendant in a hospital. With the improvement a large number of thermometers can be carried by the nurse, without danger of breaking, to the different wards in a hospital so that the temperature of the patients in the wards may be successively taken by the different thermometers, and also whereby a single thermometer for this purpose and the unsanitary conditions which are liable to result therefrom will be obviated. In a like manner the nurse can carry to the different wards a plurality of glasses containing water or medicine.
The top plate, opposite each aperture therein, is stamped to produce different numbers, and the tubes received through the apertures in the top and intermediate plates have adhesive tapes therearound numbered to correspond with the numbers on the top plate and also, if desired, having the pa tients names written thereon. By this arrangement, no errors will occur in giving a patient wrong medicine. The carrier will be found especially convenient for conveying laboratory specimens.
The grip portion of the handle -7 is arranged comparatively close to the top plate so that the carrier can be conveniently conveyed and rotated on the stem of the handle 'to bring the proper thermometer and medicament to a position that renders the same easily removable by the nurse or attendant. Centrally arranged through the plates 2 and 3 there is a sleeve 8 that has its ends flanged outwardly. Designed to be freely received through the sleeve '8 there is the shank 9 of the handle 7. The shank has its lower end flanged, as at 10, to contact with the lower flange of the sleeve 8. On the shank 9, resting on the outer flange of the sleeve 8 above the plate 2, there is a disk or washer 11. Passing through'the shank 9 and contacting with the outer face of the disk or washer 11 there is a pin 12. By this arrangement it will be noted that the device may be turned on the shank of the handle 7 It is thought that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawing will fully set forth the construction and advantages of the improvement to those skilled in the art to which such inventions relate.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is A carrier for Water glasses, medicaments and clinic thermometers, comprising superimposed plates having rounded corners all of which, except the bottom plate having rounded openings the-rethrough and having numbered apertures arranged in spaced re-
