DISPLAY DEVIE FOR FLAT '.lAIBIIEIWARE.l
Application 'led November 19, 1923. Serial No. 675,439.
Tov all whom t may concern.:-
Be it known that I, JOHN LoLo LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sherrill, county of Oneida, and State of New Yorkhavek invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices for Flat Tableware, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, forming la part of the same.
This invention relates to improvements in silverware display devices.
One of the 'objects of the present inven'-,
` tion is to provide a device of this kind comprising a carrier for the article to be displayed and means for detachably securing the article thereto as to prevent movement thereof inany direction, while permitting ready detachment of the article when desired. Another object is to provide a container adapted to receive and support the support in position for display or in inverted position for shipment or storage.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a evice embodying the present invention, an v Figure 2 a transverse the line 22of 1.
Referring to said drawings, 1 re resents the article carrier, 2 a container t erefor, 3 an envelope or covering of transparent material, preferably impervious to atmospheric moisture, covering the carrier 1 and the 35 article thereon so as to protect the latter from the atmosphere and at the same time section thereof on permit display and inspection thereof from all directions. For the purpose of providing for such display and inspection the carrier 1 is preferably in thesha e of an inverted box having depending anges at its sides and ends.
The means for securing the article to this carrier consist of a'pair of clips 4, formed 45 preferably of some flexible metal and havare bent or extend outwardly on the inner side thereof as shown in Figure 2; these openings being preferably provided with metal eyelets 5.
-The clips 4 and the openings therefor in the carrier 1 are so disposed lengthwise of the carrier and relatively to the article to be secured thereto as to engage the article at bulging or deflected portions 6, 7 lengthwise of the article, so as to not only hold the article down against the surface of the carrier but also prevent endwise and sidewise movement thereof along said surface. This is of importance in any kind of a carrier for silverware article but it is of particular importance where such articles are provided with transparent sealing envelopes, as in the present case, because such envelopes are necessarily very thin and somewhat fragile andtherefore are liable to be torn orbroken by the article unless it be secured' to its carrier against movement in any direction.
The container 2 combined with the carrier 1 is provided interiorly at its ends with stops 8 on which the ends of the carrier 1 may rest either in obverse position, for the display of the article thereon or in reversed position for shipment or storage. This cou` tainer is of such depth as to receive the carrier 1, when reversed, with the article extending downward into the container, without the article on the carrier coming in contact with the bottom of the container. The distance between the upper ends of the supports 8 and the top of the container 2 is about equal to the depth of the flanged sides and ends of the carrier 1 so that when the latter is in obverse or display position (as shown) or in reversed position the carrier will be about flush with the upper edge of the container.
The container 2 therefore may be used for 'the display of the article on the support 1 and also for the shipment of the article and for its storage as, for example, on the shelves of the dealer.
What is claimed is:
A display device for a tableware article comprising a carrier and means detachably connecting the article thereto, in combination with a container provided interiorly tainer and in its reverse -position with the with means for supporting the carrier in its article projecting downwardly into and out obverse and reverse positions, said container of Contact with the container. 10 being of such depth and said engaging In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set 5 means so positioned therein as to support my hand. U
the crrier in its obverse position with the article thereon projecting above the 'conv JOHN LOLOLEE.
