To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMEs Rose, a citizen of the United States, residing atGalion, in the county of Crawford and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Shoulder Strap, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in shoulder straps for ladies undergarments such as chemises, brassieres and the like.

One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a shoulder strap which is formed of elastic material, means being associated therewith of a non elastic nature for preventing the stretching of the shoulder straps and the displacement thereof from the shoulder of the wearer.

A further object is to provide a shoulder strap of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and further well adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.

Other objects and advantages will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the shoulder strap embodying my invention showing the same associated with an undergarment, and l .Figure 2 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 22 of Figure 1.

Ordinarily ladies undergarments now generally on the market are provided with shoulder straps which are of an elastic nature and considerable difficulty is experienced in retaining the shoulder straps in position on the shoulder of the wearer. The object of the present invention is to provide a means in connection with the shoulder strap for preventing the stretching of the material thus retaining the same in position on the shoulder of the wearer at all time thereby overcoming the discomfort usually caused by the displacement of the shoulder straps from their proper positions.

In the drawing, the shoulder strap is designated generally by the numeral 1, the.

same being formed of such material as to render the same elastic and being substantially tubular in cross section as clearly illustrated in Figure 2. The free edges of the material from which the shoulder strap is formed are arranged in overlapping relation as clearly illustrated at 2 so as to form a frictional rib on the under side of the strap.

Adapted to be disposed longitudinally within the tubular strap 1, is an elongated strip of tape or other non-elastic material the same being designated by the numeral 3.

The non-elastic strip 3 is arranged in the central portion of the tubular strap 1 and is stitched in position by means of the suitable stitching 4, the latter also providing a means for fastening the overlapping freeedges of the strap. The outer edges of the tubular strap 1 may be provided with ornamental stitching 5.

It will thus be seen from the foregoing descrition, that a shoulder strap has been provi ed which will maintain its original shape and will not stretch when in use, thus enabling the garment with which the invention is associated to be properly supported on the body of the wearer.

While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understoodthat various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described the invention, What I claim is: Q

A shoulder strap formed from an elongated piece of elastic material folded along two longitudinal lines spaced from the free edges thereof to provide a flat tubular construction and having its free edges in overlapping relation along its median longitu dinal dimension so as toform a frictional rib on the under side of the strap, and a stripof non-elastic material disposed longitudinally inside the piece of tubular elastic material and sewed to the overlapping free edges thereof.
