Description

0. YE TER STAGING BRACKET Filed April 5. 1924 WITNESSES v INVENTOR 0H0 ltter I By M Ana/Mrs Patented Zt'l, lQEt'i.

(J'lTO YETTER, OF BOSTON, Ii'EAEElAGHUSETTS.
srseins BRACKET.
Application filed April 3,
To all whom it mcu come-rm Be it known that l. @r'ro Yirr'rnn. a citizen of the United States, and a resident oi Boston, in the county of .Buti'oll: and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved tit-aging Bracket. oi which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has relation to supports and has particular reference to a bracket construction for supporting a staging.
The outstanding object of the present invention resides in the provision of a means for supporting a staging adjacent the edge of a root for effecting repairs to the gutters or the edge oi? the rooii. which supporting means eliminates the necessity of employing expensive scatiolding and the t me and labor incident to theerection oi the same.
As a further object the invention contemplates a staging supporting means for the purpose set forth which is readily positioned. which is light and easily handled, and which is strong and durable in its construction.
i l-J a still further object the invention comprehends a staging bracket construction which is capable of adjustment to conform both to the pitch oi? a root and to variations in the overhang ot the roof edge with respect to the side wall of the building.
The invention furthermore conten'iplates a staging supporting means which is comperatively simple in its construction, inex pensive to n'ianutacture and which is thoroughly reliable and highly efficient in its purpose.
With the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the ap pended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claim is expressed.
in the drawings Figure 1 is a side view of a staging supporting means constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the same in applied position.
Fig. 2. is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken approximately on the line indicated at 2-2 in Fig. 1.
real. Serial No. icic e.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the guard rail supporting means carried by the stag-- lug brackets.
Fig. is a perspective view oi the adjust able attaching}; foot tor-lining apart of each bracket.
Fig. 5 is a similar view of an interchangeable :t'oot which used in connection with each bracket.
itch-wring to the drawings by characters or reference. the staging supporting means consists oil a bracket which includes a vertical member l0 preierably constructed of 'l iron. which member is termed with an o'l'i'set upper end ll preferably in the form of a gooseneclr, the free terminal 12 or which end has eliminated therefrom the flanges and which end is further apertured laterally. A foot 13 having spaced upwarc ly projecting apertured ears i l secured by screws, spikes or other fastening devices which are anchored to the root after the removal of one or more of the shingles. The apertured extremity 12 ot the member is inserted between the ears 14 of the foot, after which a bolt B is passed through the registering apertures in the ears and extrei'nity .2 whereby the nienr ber 10 is nivotally connected with the roof. When thus connected the member it) depends vertically alongside oi? the side wall of the building. The member 10 has further connected therewith a horizontal member 16 which is preferably of angle iron construction and has a longitudinally adjustable section 17 at its inner end formed with a bearing toot 18 which is designed to engage with the side wall W of the building. In order to render the section 17 adjustable the member 16 is provided with a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings 19 in its vertical flange and the section 1'7 with a series oi longitudinally spaced openings 20 in its vertical. flange, which openings, when registered, re ceive therethrough bolts 21. The opposite outwardly projecting end 22 of the horizontal member 16 is maintained in rigid position by means of an angle brace 23, the lower end of which is riveted as at 24 to the vertical member 10 and the upper end of which is riveted as at 25 to the vertical flange of the member 16. lhe horizontal flange oi' the member 16 at its outer end 22 is turned up as at 26 and the outer end ing rod 3%, the lower end of which is passe through the aligned apertu de ears 3 and with the lower on the stop or rest 32.
in ii of the device t '5: bracket is first secured to the root R to coincide with the oitrh oi the same by heavy screws or spil'es driven through apertree terminal 12 of es in the foot ano the upper end i; then p0" the loot; aix'e h the root lateral swinging movement. The section 170i the horizon al member 16 is then ad usted so that when the foot 18 thereof is in engagement with the side wall TV oi the isuilrhng the vertical member 10 will s itl}: diverge with respect to the side wall its upper to its lower end. lhe SitlgiD then arranged on the outer end of ti horizontal member 16 between the supporting means for the guard rail and the vertical member 10 so that the weight on the staging S is supported both i l side of the building.
from tire root and the l fhen not. in use it is, of course, obvious that the guard rail and its supporting rods may be readily disassociated from the brackets by merely lifting up on the same to withdraw the rods 34- r'rom the guide and supporting lugs 39, 31 and 82 and further that the adjustable section l? of the horizontal member 16 may be disconnected. In
5 there has been illustrated a foot mem- 3 which the spaced apertured ears e arranged transverselyto the length .10 foot so that the tfootineniber may be :angee. longitudinally of the root when in lieu of the alternative arrange the other foot transversely of the :nent
root.
From the foregoing it will thus be seen that a staging bracket which is especially dered for the making of repairs to gutters points ai'ljacent the edge of a roof has been provided which eliminates expensive scaiiolding and gives the workman t'ree access to the parts to be repaired.
I claim:
A staging incket lor sup 'iorting a staging adjacent the edge of a roof comprising av vertical member, a goose neck formed at its upper (nth an angularly adjustable attaching toot carried by the free terminal of the goose nee. having perforations therein through which attaching means are aptedto be passed for anchoring the same to the root suspending the vertical member over the edq e of the roof, a horizontal member secured to the vertical member and trojecting outwardly away from the wall of the building an angle brace extending downwardly from the outer end of the horizontal member to the lower end of the verti -al member and connected respectively to the outer end of the horizontal member and the lower end of the vertical member and an arm adjustably carried by the horizontal member and projecting inwardly therefrom for engaging the wall of the building in such a manner as to dispose the vertical member in a downwardly diverging relation to the side wall of the building whereby the upper a'face the portion oi the horizontal member lying between the vertical member and the outer end of said horizontal member is adapted to receive thereon the stagin OTTO YETTER.
