Another object of the'invention is to provide a guard of this character having a plurality of blade engaging portions to prevent slipping of the guard over the blade of the isnpleni n A still further object of the invention is to provide aprotecting flange to protect the instep portion of the shoe to which the guard is attached, and prevent wear of the shoe at this point.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
deferring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational View of the guard, disclosing the same as attached to a shoe. 7
Figure 52 is a bottom plan view of the guard.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the guard embodies a toe section 5, an instep section 6 and an intermediate section 7, all of which sections being formed of sheet metal having an outline conforming to the outline of the sole of a shoe.
The intermediate section 7 is connected to the toe section 5 and to the instep section 6, by means ofthe hinges S, which hinges permit movement of the sections of the guard with respect to each other to compensate for the flexing of the sole of the shoe to which the guard is attached, incident to the person walking.
At the rear of the instep section 6 is a depending flange 9 which is designed to lie in close engagement with the forward end of the heel of the shoe and provide a stop to be engaged by the upper edge of the blade against which the guard is moved, to protect the heel against wear.
Formed integral with the instep section 6 are upwardly extending flanges 10, which are disposed at opposite sides of the instep section 6 and guard the sides of the shoe against wear by contact with the handle of thedimplement, when the device is being use Openings 11 are formed in the flanges 10 which openings accommodate the strap members 10 and 11, the strap member 10 being passed around the shoe or foot of the wearer from where the same is connected to the strap 11 as by means of the buckle 12. Formed integral with the toe section 5 are upwardly extending members 12 which are also formed with openings 13 to accommodate the strap member 14: for securing the forward portion of the guard in position.
Spurs indicated at 15 are stamped from the toe portion and are bent downwardly to prevent slipping of the person using the guard, while walkiiw.
aving thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A shoe guard including a toe section, an instep section and an intermediate section, hinges for pivotally connecting the toe section and the instep section with the intermediate section, the intermediate section lying flat against the ball of the shoe to which the device is secured, said hinges extending beyond the surface of the toe section toproride anti-skid portions, a flange formed along the rear edge of the instep section and extending beyond the heel of the shoe to dig into the surface on which the guard is used, the sides of the instep section extending upwardly to embrace portions of the sides of the shoe, and having openings, a strap extending through the openings to secure the guard to the foot of the user,
means for securing the toe sections to the foot of the user, and spurs struck from the toe section.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature.
