IMPROVEMENT IN rSTAYS FOR THE BOTTOMS OF PANTALOONS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,343, dated February 2, 1875; application tiled August 22, 1874.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a vertical section, showing the position of the stay in the leg of the pants. Fig. 2 is a side View of the stay detached.

A represents the pants. B is the stay. This stay is made either of india-rubber alone,

Y or of india-rubber combined with cloth or` muslin, in any desired manner. In this eX- ample of my invention the stay'i's a thin piece of rubber having thin muslin or other cloth attached to one or both sides by pressing or otherwise. 4C, Fig. 2, represents the rubber, and D the cloth or muslin. This goods is cut to the proper form to give the pantaloons the proper shape, and the stay is inserted bet-Ween the cloth of the pants and an inner lining, E, thereof, substantially as seen in Fig. 1.

The india-rubber stay is designed to take the place of the canvas stay now used in the manufacture of pantaloons to keep lhe bottoms of the legs in shape.`

I do not claim the application of a waterrepelling material to pants or other form of clothing; but,

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat` As an improved article of manufacture, the strip B, for application as a stay for the bottoms of pantaloon-legs, the same being formed wholly or in part of rubber, as shown and described.
