E. L. JOHNSON COSMETIC HOLDER Filed Jan. 16. 1926 [Tatented Nov. 23, 1926.
UNITED STATES ELIJAH L. JOHNSON, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
COSMETIC HOLDER.
Application filed January 16, 1926. Serial No. 81,653.
Modern usage of cosmetics by the feminine sex demands that certain necessary cosmetlcs be carried on the person so that they may be conveniently and promptly applied whenever the situation demands it. Cosmetics are usually kept in a vanity case, but places are often frequented by the feminine sex where cases cannot be conveniently carried. One example of this is in a ballroom where a vanity case would be very much in the way. Another example of its utility is -m automobile driving where a lady drivers attention is detracted from her driving while searching for cosmetics in a vanity case. W'ith invention the cosmetics are handy and maybe readily applied with little distraction and little danger of accidents which might occurfrom inattention to driving.
It is an object of this invenicn to provide a cosmetic holder which is adapted to be secured, to the wrist. The cosmetic'holder of my invention is in the form of a bracelet which may be artistically designed and which will be very convenient for use and will in no manner interfere with a persons activity.
It is quite essential to a ladys appearance and particularly to her self-satisfaction that she be able to inspect her countenance at various intervals. A lady, however, is often constrained from such an inspection, since considerable attention might be attracted by opening a vanity case and she might suffer considerable embarrassment.
It is another object of my invention to provide a cosmetic holderwhich is adapted to be secured to the wrist and which has a mirror, by, means of which a personsa-ppearancemay be very readily inspected without attracting attention.
Other objects and advantages of the inven tion will be made manifest in the following description.
'Referring to the drawing in which I illustrate my invention,
Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the cosmetic holder of my invention in use.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3--3 curved bottom 13 which is so shaped as to it the contour of the wrist. Extending upwardly from the bottom 13 of the receptacle 12 is a wall 14 which extends outwardly and upwardly at the front and at the sides thereof,.but which extends vertically upward at the back. Inside the receptacle 12 1s a pair of cosmetic compartments 16 and 17 which may havesupplies of powder 18 and rouge 19 respectively, as indicated in Fig. 2. In each of the compartments 16 and 17 there IS a puff 20 by means of which the powder or rouge may be applied.
The top of the receptacle 12 is closed by a lid 23 which is hinged at 24 to the receptacle 12. A major portion of the lid 23 extends inside of the wall 14 of the receptacle in contact therewith, and a flange 25 of the lid extends over the upper edge of the wall 14 in engagement therewith. This provides a tight. joint at these points and prevents powder or rouge from leaking fromthe in terior of the receptacle. A simple form of catch construction may be provided for releasably holding the cover in closed position such as indicated by an out-struck portion 28 formed on the lid 23 which may extend into an opening 29 of the wall 14: when the lid 23 is closed.
The lid 23 carries an external mirror 31. Formed at the back side of the receptacle 12 and preferably integral therewith is a sleeve '32 which is arranged for holding a container 33. The container 33 consists of a shell 34 and a cap 35, the cap 35 holding a lipstick 36 which is enclosed by the container 33. The parts just described may be considered as consisting of the cosmetic holder proper of the invention.
Connected to the receptacle '12 is a means for securing it to. the wrist, which means is in the form of a bracelet 4:0. From the opposite sides of the receptacle 12 directly adjacent to the curved bottom 13 thereof are metallic loops 41 to which the bracelet is connected. The bracelet 40 may be of any practical or ornamental construction, the one shown in the drawing being merely a ribbon such as is commonly used on wrist watches. The length of the brace et 40 is adjusted by moving the snap plates 42 along the ribbon.
Referring to Fig. 1 the cosmetic holder is placed on the wrist so that-the container is positioned on the inside of the wrist, as shown. The curved bottom 13 engages the wrist in such a manner that there is'no uncomfortable feeling and in such a manner that the holder will not slip from place.
My invention permits cosmetics to be very conveniently retained on the person at all times and especially where it would be undesirable to carry a vanity case or purse 111 which cosmetics at the present time are ordinarily carried. The mirror 31 is accessible at all times and the user may very conveniently observe here appearance from time to time without attracting any attention. The container 33 holding the lipstick 36 is of the same size as those in common use today. When using the lipstick it is unnecessary to remove the shell from place, the cover 35 being removed from the shell .and the lipstick used. When the lipstick has been used up and is to be replaced by a new one, the entire container 33 may be removed from the sleeve 32 and a new container carrying a lipstick may be placed therethrough.
It should be understood that in the drawing I illustrate a simple form of the invention, and that in the manufacture thereof it may be desirable to embellish it with various ornamental designs which particularly appeal to the feminine sex.
In some instances it may be desirable to use only the mirror, and to dispense with the receptacle. In such cases only a mirror and a bracelet are provided which are attached on the wrist in the same manner as the cosmetic holder in it's entirety.
I claim as my invention:
1. In combination: a receptacle having a cosmetic compartment therein, said receptacle having a curved bottom for fitting the Wrist; a lid for said receptacle; .a means formed on said receptacle for holding a lip stick; and means for securing said receptacle to the Wrist.
2. In combination: a receptacle having a cosmetic compartment therein, said recep-' tacle having a curved bottom for fitting the wrist; a lid for said receptacle; a means formed on said receptacle for holdin a lipstick; and a bracelet-for securing sai receptacle to the wrist.
3. In combination: a receptacle having a cosmetic compartment therein, said receptacle having a curved bottom for fitting the Wrist; a lid for said receptacle; a sleeve formed on said receptacle; an elongated containcr supported by said sleeve; and means for securing said receptacle to the wrist.
4. In combination: a receptacle having a cosmetic compartment therein, said receptacle having a curved bottom for fittin the wrist; a lid for said receptacle; a s eeve formed on said receptacle; an elongated container supported by said sleeve; and a bracelet for securing said receptacle to the Wrist.
5. In combination: a receptacle having a cosmetic compartment therein, said receptacle having a curved bottom for fitting the wrist; a lid for said receptacle; a mirror carried by said lid; a means formed on said receptacle for holding a lipstick; and a bracelet for securing said receptacle to the wrist.
6. In combination: a receptacle having a cosmetic compartment therein, said receptacle having a curved bottom for fitting the wrist; a lid for said receptacle; a mirror carried by said lid; a sleeve formed on said receptacle; an elongated container supported by said sleeve; and means for securing said receptacle to the wrist.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles, California, this 11th day of January, 1926.
, ELIJAH L. JOHNSON.
