Description

Feb. 1 192.7,
A. J. FAlRMER COMBINED WASHBASIN AND FOOT TUB Filed Oct. '4, 1924 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Feb. 1, 1927.
airs-sires ARTHUR J". FARMEB, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
COMBINED WASHBASIN AND FOOT Application filed October 4, 1924. Serial No. 741,714.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combined wash basin and foot tub. The main object of my invention is the provision of a device of this character which will be economical to manufacture and wherein two articles are combined in a single unit so as to occupy the same space that one of the articles has heretofore occupied.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a combination article of the above character formed in a single unit and preferably in vertical alignment so as to occupy minimum space in. a room and provided with a novel type of plumbing whereby individual water supplies are arranged for each of the articles and separate drainage is formed for each article.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, the combination and arrangements of parts hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a combined wash basin and foot tub constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, I have illustrated in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 a preferred form of my invention wherein the foot tub is formed integral with the wash basin and these two articles are preferably formed simultaneously.
In the general construction illustrated in the drawings the numeral 1 indicates the base or standard of my improved article which is preferably hollow in order to re duce the cost of manufacture and weight of the article. Supported above the standard l is the foot basin 2 having an outlet 3 centrally thereof connecting with the drain pipe l.
Arranged directly above the foot basin 2 is the usual hand wash basin 5 which is disposed in spaced relation with the foot basin 2. and provided with a curved depending flange 6 mostly designed for ornamental purposes.
Extending upwardly from the foot basin 2 at the rear side thereof is an arcuate Wall 7 to which the basin 5 is attached for supporting the same in spaced relation with the foot basin 2. The arcuate formation of wall 7 forms forwardly extending side extensions as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 which also constitute splatter-fenders that restrict the throw or splatter or water-spray that may occur in use of the foot-tub.
The front of the side edges of the wall 7 are preferably provided with a wide surface as at 8 to form a neat aopearing front.
The water supply in the hand basin 5 is provided thru the spigots 9 and 10 which communicate with the hot and cold water supply.
The basin 5 is provided with an outlet 11 adapted to connect with the main drain through the branch drain pipe 12 which eX- tends through the wall 7 as shown in Fig. 2. Arranged beneath the basin 5 and disposed above the basin 2 are the hot and cold water Valves 13 and 14- which control communication from the water supply through the outlet 15. This outlet, in the present instance is shown as in the form of a spray although any suitable type of outlet may be provided for. Attention is called to the supporting base standard 1 which is formed substantially narrow so as to permit the feet of the user of the basin 5 to extend beneath the basin 2 to assume the proper position when using the basin 5.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that a combined wash basin and foot tub constructed of a pedestal type as illustrated in the accompanying drawings will be extremely useful in hotel rooms and the like wherein it combines two essential articles. not only for the travelling public but for others as well.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. The combined wash-basin and foot-tub, comprising an upper wash-basin and a lower foot-tub, one supported from the other, and the tub located beneath the basin and positioned to leave a receiving space beneath it for the feet of a person in standing posture in using the basin.
2. The combined Wash-basin and foot-tub comprising a base foot-tub, a wash-basin disposed. above and over the foot-tub, and a support for the wash-basin connected to the rear portion of the foot-tub and having for- Wardly extending side-members constituting splash-fenders.
3. The combined Wash-basin and foot-tub, comprising a base foot-tub provided with a depending standard to support the tub above a floor, a Wash-basin disposed above and over the foot-tnb, and a support for the Wash-basin extending upwardly from the foot-tub and connecting the basin and tub.
4. The combined monolithic Wash-basin 1 and foot-tub, comprising a base foot-tub having a depending support, a Wash-basin disposed above and over the foot-tub, and a member connecting the basin With the tub and having forwardly extending sides con- 15 stituting splash-fenders.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ARTHUR J. FARMER.
