floor, together with means for holding a quantity of wax or polishing material in a suitable receptacle above the base, whereby the same may be forced downwardly through passages in the base and the polishin material thereon into contact with the door at intervals, so that when the base is. moved:

over the surface of the floor the wax will be uniformly applied and wax distributed 'over the surface of the floor and polished by the movement of the device thereover,

Another object is to provide in combination with a polishing element having-a pivoted handle thereon, of areceptacle for holding a supply of polishing material and having means adjustable therein for forcing the polishing material through the base and onto the surface of the floor in substantially the same manner as grease is forced from a grease gun for injecting oil of grease into the bearings of machine parts.

Another object is to provide in combination with a polishing element, a sheet of polishing material such as feltor the like adapted to be removably held on the base, and readily attached to and detached from the base, for substituting one piece of material for another.

Other objects may appear as the description progresses.

I attain the above objects by means of the device shown in the accompanying drawiugs, in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved polishing device in readiness for use. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same on line 22 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a transverse elevation of the base on line 33 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the base with. the polishing element partially broken away. The device as shown in its preferred form includes a cast metal base B, having a central 1 thereon to which a handle H is pivoted by means of a clevis 2 attached to the lower end of the handle and pivoted at3 to said lug. The base B is of substantial area and is preferably rectangular in form and sufficiently heavy to provide proper friction on the floor for polishing the same.

The end portions 4, 4, of the base are tapered and carry transverse metal strips 5, 5, held thereon by means of screws 6, 6, etc., and the lower portions 7, 7, of the strips 5, 5, are bent upwardly and thence downwardly to form gripping edges for holding a sheet of felt or the like, as at 8, on the lower portion of the base when' the said sheet is stretched over the bottom 9 of the base, and thence upwardly over the end portions and under the lower portions 7, 7. The upper side of the base B has a bore 10 therein close to the lug 1, and adapted to receive a plug 11 to which is attached a flexible tube 12 leading to a cylinder 0 suitably attached to the handle H. Said cylinder 1s adapted to hold a quantity of wax or other polishing material and to feed the same downwardly through the tube 12 into the bore 10 of the base. Said cylinder may have removable heads 13 and 14 respectively, at the lower and upper ends thereof, and a suitable feeding means 15 connectin the inner head 13 with the tube 12.- A piston 16 is movably disposed in the cylinder C and has a swivel stem 17 suitably attached thereto which is threaded at 18 throu h the outer head 14 so that when the ban le 19 of said stem is turned, the piston 16 will be correspondingly advanced or retracted in the cylinder C.

The base B has a plurality of diagonal] disposed inclined passages 20, 20, etc., whic radiate from and communicate with the bore 10 in the base and are open at 21, 21, etc., on the bottom 9 of the base, whereby a polishing material M held in the c linder C may be forced downwardly throug the tube 12, the bore 10, and passages 20 and corresponding openings 22, in the polishing strip 8 when the piston 16 is moved downwardly in the cylinder.

The passages 20 and the openings 21 therefor are so arranged as to provide a uniform distribution of the wax at different points about the center of the base B, and on the lower side of the polishing strip 8, so that when the waxed surface of the base B is moved over the floor the-wax will be uniformly distributed over the surface of the member 8 and applied uniformly to, the surface of the floor, and said base being of substantial weight, will serve to rub the wax into the floor and olish the same thoroughly. The handle is employed for moving I the base backwardly and forwardly over the floor, and said handle may be turned to one or the other sides, as the case may be.

The tube 12 which feeds the wax to the base may have clamps 23 for holdin the same in position on the handle, an the length of said tube should be such that the handle may be moved freely without breaking or stretching the tube.

The bottom of the base B may be provided with grooves such as is shown at 24, which connect the outlets 21, 21, in the base for receiving a quantity ofthe wax or polishing material, and openings 22 in the felt on the bottom of the base may be multiplied as shown in Fig. 4, for providing outlets therethrough for the polishin material, whereby 2B the same may be applie to the floor. Also the felt material may be extended upwardly I It will be seen that I have provided a thoroughly eflective, economical and reliable device for aonlying polishing material such as wax or the like to the surfaces of floors, and for polishing the same expeditiously and satisfactorily.

What I claim is: I

A polishing device as disclosedincluding a base provided with a passage leading through the lower surface thereof, the ends of said base being beveled, a sheet of polishing material extended over said lower surface of the base and upon said beveled ends, clamps mounted'on said beveled ends for detachably clamping the ends of the sheet to said beveled ends, a handle connected to said base, and means for forcing wax through said passage and said sheet onto the floor."
