Clasp or Thimble for Hitching Devices.

IMPROVEMENT iN CLASPS OR THIMBLES FOR HITCHING DEVICES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,757, dated April 6, 1875; application filed February 4, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES C. COVERT, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thimbles for Hitehe-rs; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a thimble for hitching horses, as will hereinafter be more fully set forth.
In order to enable others, skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my in ention, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
A represents a thimble of any suitable dimensions provided on one side with a nut or enlargement, at, having a hole through it with female screw-threads. The thimble A is fastened on the rope B at any desired place by means of a sharp pointed screw, 0 00, which passes through the thirnble at the nut to and the rope. This screw is provided with a round eye, D, for the reception of a snap-hook.
This device is intended to snap around the horses neck, and then pass through the ring of the bit, so that if the horse pulls there will be no strain on the bridle. It is light and neat, and with it there is no danger of the rope working loose, and shoving up around the neck, as is often the case with other devices of this character.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the tube A, having the projection to, with interior screw-threads cast therewith, and the screw 0, having the eye 1) and the sharp point 00, for entering into the rope, all constructed as and for the purposes set forth.
