PATENT OFFICE.
NEW( YORK, n. a Y.
Application filed mm 26, 1925. "Serial m. 18,624.
This invention relates to underwear for women and especially .to the type of underwear as is known under the names brassiere, bandeau, bust supporter, bust belt, etc. I prefer to call my invention a bust supporter and the main object of the same is to provide an under garment of the character mentioned which will be pleasant and comfortable to wear and which will be artistic, attractive and hygienic.
Other objects of my invention are: to provide a bust supporter which will give to the bust of the wearer an attractive desirable contour and shape, which will be healthful to wear, which may be applied in an inconspicuous manner directly on the body, which will be light in weight, cheap to manufacture and easy to clean, which will prevent the bust of the wearer from moving or from rubbing against the body, this latter service making it especially desirable in hot weath-- Still further objects will be apparent as the description of my invention proceeds.
To these ends the invention comprises the novel features of improvement and details of construction,.which will be hereinafter described, and finally set forth 'in the claims.
v The accompanying drawing is a perspective view of a bust supporter made accordin to m invention. y
eferrmg to the drawing, my-bust suprter comprises the main body. 10 which 1s of a belt shape, adapted to encircle the body of the wearer at the height of the busts, and has the means 11 at its ends to secure them together at the back of the wearer. Two semispherical bust supporters proper 12 arearranged in the front ortion of the belt body 10 and means 13. elp' to keep said belt in a proper positionby suspending the same-from the shoulders of the user.
'In the modification of my invention shown on the drawing, the main belt body 10 is a at 16* in .which composed of two halves 14 and 15 joined as lace both halves may be reinforced by dou ling up the marginal ends of them or possibly also by arranging a suitable strip of material underneath the seam. For easier manufacture and also to give a desired shape and increased stifiness to the belt, it may have the two'additional cuts, andi'einforced seams 17 and 18, in its two respective halves.
The bust holding semispheres 12 are pref- 4 erably made of four segments 19 joined by reinforced seams 20. The reinforcing of these seams may also be done by doubling the ends of the material or by strips of material being placed underneath them and sewed to the segments, or by both. J The seam joining the segments 19 and the belt halves 14 and 15 may be left without-any special reinforcing and made of single or double sewing-as at 21. In a similar manner the upper and lower edges 22 and 23 of the belt body may be finished by dou bling up the material and providing it with one or two rows of stitches, while the upper edge 22 may, in addition to this, have the lace 24 or some other ornament secured along its line. 4 a p The belt body shows the largest dimension in width in the front portion ofthe same, I having suitably and "artistically curved up er and lower contours at this Portion. The belt then gradiiall diminishes in width towards itstwo en 25 and 26. The end 25 in the modification shown carries elastic stri s 27 graduall diminishing in length an with button oles 28 at their ends, while the belt end 26 may carry. the buttons 29. In providing the gradually diminishing lengths for the securing strips 27 allowance is made for the sham of t e human body at this point. It is to understood that any other suitable and well known means may be em loyed, instead )of the stri s and buttons s own, to secure theends oft emainbeltto then X The means used or suspending my bras siere from the shoulders of the wearer may in the simplest case take the.-: form shown which is a shoulder strap 13.;secured to the rear portion of the main belt in a. rmanent manner, while buttons 31 and utton holes. 32 may be used in the front parts of the belt and straps, respectively, permitting an adjustable and removable connection'between said two elements of my brassiere.
The brassiere-is shown as of woven textile 1 like body having breast poc further reinfor 1. A bust supporter .com rising a belt like body havin breast p0 ets, each havv ing crossed rein orcing strips, said body be ing further reinforcedfbetween thebreast 5 pockets b' an inverted cross-like thickened portion; t e horizontal portion of the rein-' force being wider towar he center. to stifien the structure at that point.
rising a beltbetween the breast pockets by an inverted cross-like thickened portion, the horizontal portion of the re-' mforce being wider toward the center to stiifen the structure at that point, in combination with adjustable shoulder straps and back straps of graduated length to draw the sucpporter into smoother contact with the county of York, this 17th D. 1924.
