MEDICAL APPLIANCE Filed Oct. 20. 1925 Patented Mar. 29, 1927.
JOHN L. COX, OF PLAINVIEW, NEBRASKA.
MEDICAL APPLIANCE.
Application filed October 20, 1925. Serial No. 63,665.
The object of the invention is to provide a device for use upon the human form that the latter may be subjected to the beneficial effects of a fluid agent, such as hot or cold water, or a properly tempered fluid; and to provide a construction capable of use either as a means for the continuous circulation of the fluid agent, or for the rentention of the same so that the user may move aboutwhile receiving treatment with the device.
With this object in view, the invention consists in a construction and arrangement of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is an elevational view of a portion of a human figure, showing the device applied in operative position.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the connection between the extremities of the circulating tube.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 33 of Figure 2.
The invention consists of a flexible tube 10 of rubber or the like, so that it may be wrapped around any part of the human form, it being illustrated in the drawings as applied to the body above the waistline. The separate convolutions of the coil may be laid close together or separated as best suits the conditions and the extremities 11 and 12 are crossed, being passed through and engaged by a clamp 14. The extremity 11 is coupled to the intake tube 15 leading from the three-way valve 16 with which communicate the hot and cold water inlet tubes 17 and 18. The extremity 12 is connected with a waste tube 19.
If it be desired to fill the tube 10 with the treating agent, whether it be hot or cold or tempered water, the operation is the same as when the agent is circulated, but the clamping member 14 is then moved to closed .position and the crossing portions 11 and 12 of the tube are compressed and then what water remains in the tube is trapped therein. The waste tube 19 and inlet tube 15 may then be uncoupled from the extremities 11 and 12 of the tube and the device will be supplied with the treating agent so,
that the patient may move around.
The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is:
A medical appliance comprising a coil for application in surrounding relation to the human form, the terminals of the coil being crossed, a combined closing and holding means connecting said terminals, and supply and discharge tubes detachably connected with said terminals.
In testimony whereof he aflixes his signature.
