A. K. KEssLER' EMERGENCY KIT Filed March 3. 1925 Inventor /f. fiassiez;
Patented Apr. 19,1927.-
UNITED STATES I v 1,625,547 PATENT OFFICE.
ARCHIBALD K. KESSLER, 0F HUNTINGTON, WESTVIRGIN IA.
EMERGENCY KIT.
Application flied March 2, 192 Serial No. 91,748.
tions forming longitudinal half sections in which the .edge portions intertit in predetermined relation and which are formed in a predetermined manner vtor lunged cooperation to provide a kit which when opened,
will present the entire interior of each sec' tion so that ready access may he obtained to articles secured therein.
A further object of the invention resides in providing a kit having a pair oii'longitudinally arranged .halt' sections hingcdly connected and cooperating in a specialnuinner in which each section is provided with suitable means for retaining articles in. a predetermined position therein.
The invention further comprehends the provision of a pair of half casing sections in which the walls of one section mount suitable hinged retaining members adapted to divide the section in closed relation therewith, into a plurality of compartments,
and which may be moved to an open posi-,
tion on the hingedmountings therefor, to provide access to the material therein.
A still further object of the invention resides in providing a container having a pair of half longitudinal sections hinged together at one free edge in which a plate member is mounted in one section and suitably formed with cooperating spring clips adapted to receive and grip medicine containers therein, in order that-a plurality of these containers-may be mounted in closely adjacent relation. a
The invention comprehends numerous otherobjects and improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of the parts, which are more particularly pointed out in the following detailed description, and in the claim directed to a preferred form of the invention, it being understood, however, that various changes in the size, shape and relation of these parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as herein set forth. In the drawing plication:
Figure 1 is a view of the improved emerforming part of this ap gency kit having the-sections arranged in open relation ready for presenting the corn 5 tents foruse.
Fig. 2 IS a vertical transverse section thru the kit with thesections in closed position;
The improved emergency kit includes a pair of sections 1 and 2 which form longitudinally extending container sections adapted to cooperate along their free edges in closed position'as shown in Fig. 2. The free edge of the section 1 is rolled as indicated by the numeral 3 throughout the eu tire section, and along one longitudinal edge is provided with a series of spaced slots 4., which receive the circumferential pro cctiug tongues 5 on the ad acent free edge of the section 2 for providing ahingcd'.
conpcction between the sections 1- and 2. The circumferential projections 5 from the section 2 extend outwardly around the rolled edge 3 of the section .1, and then inwardly through the slots-4 and are then curled back toward the'free edge of the section 2 from which they extend.
'lhelongitudinal edge of the section 2' opposite I the hinged connection and the ends are formed with outwardly swaged edge portions as indicated at'6 toprovide a seat- 7 for receiving the rolled edge 3 of the container section 1. A handle 8 is suitably attached to the section 2 which also carries a lock member 9 adapted to receive the projections 10 on the section 1 for lock ing the two sections in closed relation as shown in Fig. 2.
A retaining plate 11 is mounted in the closed end of the section 1 on the inside thereofas clearly shown in'Fig. 1, and extendsthroughout the entire. closed end of this section, and is attached by spot welding or in any other suitable manner. This replate'is formed in any suitable and desire manner with a plurality of retaining clips 12 for receiving and holding tongue depressers, thermometer cases, and the like,
taining vwhile at 13 the retaining plate is formed memb 1s 15 are hingedly mounted at 16 in the end of the container section 2, and the free edges are formed with laterally directed flanges 17 disposed toward the bottom or closed end of the container section 2 for cooperation therewith, to divide the container section 2 into a plurality of compartments. 111 the closed position of these frames 15, a compartment is formed within each frame which is closed by the movement of the frame into cooperation with the container section 52., while an intermediate compartment is formed between the flanges of the frame at opposite ends of the central portion of the container section 2, in which a pair of resilient clips 18 are adapted to retain suitable material positioned therein.
With an emergency kit constructed as illustrated in the drawing and above described, it will be understood that when the two sections, 1 and 2 are in closed position as shown in Fig. 2, a substantially tight container is formed which will exclude dust, water, and other foreign matter under normal conditions, and retain the contents in a substantially clean sterile condition for immediate use upon en'iergency by opening the sections to the position shown in Fig. 1.
With the kit open' as shown in Fig.- 1, immediate access is had toall ot' the material within the kit by moving the compartment forming frames 15 into open position as.
shown in dotted lines at the ri'ghtliand side of Fig. 1, which will provide access to the entire contents of the kit. The entire kit structure is formed of sheet material, suitably stamped and bent to provide the hinged structure, the interfitting edges and the clip structure. The retaining plate 11 extends from a single piece of material and the clips formed in rows arranged in staggered relation to provide material for the formation of the deep clip, and to mount containers therein in close relation in order that a maximum number of medicine containers may be mounted in a small space. h
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
An emergency kit, comprising a container formed of a pair of hinged container forming half sections, means for releasably locking said sections in closed container -forming relation, and a pair of rectangular frame members hingcdly mounted in the opposite ends of one section and movable toward each other to closed position, each frame member having a plate member formed with laterally extending flanges on the sides adapted for cooperation in the closed position of the members with the ends of the section for dividing said section into a plurality of compartments, and in the open position of the members to provide communication between the several portions of the section.
In testimonywhereof I afiix my signature.
5 ARCHIBALD K. KESSLER.
