' J. P. VENEGAS KEY LOCK Filed Nov. 24. 192s JNVENTOR 530w @umh/ if 6 AT IORNEY Patented May 3, 1927.
UNITED STATES JOSE PUENTE YENEGAS, F LAREDO, TEXAS.
KEY LOCK.
Application filed November 24, 1925.
This invention relates to improvements in key-rings, and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a key-ring allowing a ready removal of any selected key from the ring.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a key-ring equipped with novel and improved means for locking the parts of the split key-ring.
A. further object of the invention is the provision of a key-ring of simple and inexpensive construction, yet durable and positively acting to allow the attachment to, and the removal of the several keys from the rin These and further objects and advantages of the invention will become more fully apparent as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically defined in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a key-ring constructed according to the present invention, closed.
Fig. 2 is a viewsimilar to Fig. 1, with the ring closed. I
Fig. 3 is a similar view with parts shown in section to illustrate the locking device. 7
Fig. 4: is an edge View thereof.
Fig. 5 illustrates in sectional front elevation a modified form of the key-ring.
The key-ring constructed according to the present invention comprises substantially a split-ring 10, split at 11, and adapted to be moved in and out of a holder 12 which may be ornamented as indicated at 13, on its front face, and to the side walls of which a loop 1% is attached allowing the suspension of the key-ring from any suitable desired support.
A suitable locking device or latch 15 is adapted to hold the split ring, and has attached thereto the lower end of a pin 16,
the upper end of which projects from the.
holder and carries at its extreme end a knob or ball 17 for operating the lock. A spring is wound about the pin or stem 16 and engages with its lower end the locking member or latch 15 and with its upper end the inner upper wall of the holder, as at 18,
Serial No. 71,045.
having an outer collar 19 formed therewith at this place;
In the modified form of the key-ring illustrated in Figure 5, the split-ring 20 has formed on its upper edge near the split thereof a plurality of teeth on both parts of the ring adapted to be engaged by the lower correspondingly toothed side flanges 21, 22 of the guard or loop 23. The holder 24 allows an introduction of the parts of the key-ring into the same, and contains a locking member 25 adapted to engage and lock the parts of the ring. To this member a stem 26 is attached extending on top from the holder and carrying at its extreme upper end an operating knob or ball member 27. A spring 28 is wound about thestem within the holder and rests with its lower end upon the locking member and with its upper end engages the inner upper wall of the holder which at this place has an outer collar 29 formed therewith.
The operation of my device will be entirely clear from the above description, and it will be clear that by the suitable opera tion of the knobs of the locking member the split ring can be moved out of the holders laterally in order to permit a ready attachment or detachment, as the case may be of any key on the holdei ring.
It will be understood, that I have shown and described as an example some of the embodiments of my invention and that such changes may be made in its construction as come within the scope of the appended claim without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a device of the class described, a split ring, a plurality of teeth on the upper edge thereof adjacent the split portion, a holder slidable on the ring, means for locking the holder over the split portion of the ring, a loop on the holder, and toothed side flanges on the lower end of the loop, engageable with the teeth on the ring.
I11 testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
JOSE PUENTE VENEGAS.
