PARKING LIGHT.
Application filed October 23, 1925. Serial No. 64,428.
This invention relates to improvements in automobile signal lights and has for an object the provision of, a light which is so arranged within a door-handle as to serve as,
a parking light andto illuminate the rum 'ning board or step of the automobile.
Another object of the invention is the provision of novel means for effecting electrio connection between, a bulb arranged within the door handle and the current su ply of the automobile, so as to provi e for operation of the handle without disturbing the how of current.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

The handle 12 is of hollow construction and receives an electric bulb' 15, the said handle being further provided with a red lens 16 and a white lens 17 after the manner of the usual arking light. I handle may be provided with a lens 18 and this lens is arranged within the outer face of the handle and may be either of clear or colored glass. The lower part of the handle is provided with a lens 19 so that rays of light from the bulb 15 will project downward and illuminate the running board or step of the automobile.

a socket 20 located within the shank 13 and this socket includes an insulated base 21. The lens 18 is removably held in place by a frame 22 so that access may be had to the interior of the handle and the bulb renewed when desired.
The shank is provided with a shoulder23 formed at the inner end of the extension 14.- andthis shoulder bears against a plate 24 which is secured to thd door by fastening devices 25. A spring 26 which surrounds the extension 14 and bears against the plate '24 and against an adjustable stop or collar 26, serves to hold the shoulder tightly against the plate.
The socket 21 is provided with a metallic sleeve 27 and projecting into this'sleeve is a contact in 28 which is carried by the bulb 15. xtending throughout the length or" the extension 14 of the shank is an insulated sleeve 29, the latter accommodating a conductor wire or rod 30. One end of this conductor wire is clamped Within the sleeve 27 by a set screw 31, while a spring 32 arranged within the sleeve 27' has its opposite ends contacting with the pin 28 and the conductor 30. A yieldable electrical con-v nection is thus eflected between the pin 28 and the adjacent end'of the conductor 30.
The 0 posite end of the conductor 30 is a provide I sprin 34 bears against this head, while the opposite end of the spring bears against the inner end of a contact pin 35 which is stationary with the door 10. The pin 35 is preferably mounted upon a plate 36 having means indicated at 37 for connection with the conductor wire from a battery or other source of current. Current flows into the bulb from this wire through the conductor 30 and the bulb is grounded in the usual manner.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is.
claimed is 1 1. In combination with a door look, a door handle com rising a hollow grip having glass covere openings therein and a hollow shank extending from the grip. a sleeve carried by and extending into the lock. and adapted to operate the latter when the handle is operated, an insulated sleeve extendwith a head 33 and one end of a too ing through the shank carried sleeve. a contact 'pin arranged within and insulated from the shank, an electric bulb located within the handle and engaging the contact pin, a second contact pin carried by the door and extending into the insulated sleeve and means engaging the door carried contact pin and extending through the insulated sleeve to provide electrical connection between the contact points.
2. In combination with a door lock, a door handle comprising a hollow grip having glass covered openings therein and a hollow shank extending from the grip, a sleeve carried by and extending into the lock and adapted to operate the latter when the handle is operated, an insulated sleeve extending through the shank carried sleeve, a contact pin arranged within and insulated from the shank, an electric bulb located within the handle and engaging the contact pin, and extending into the insulated sleeve, an electric conductor extending through the insulated sleeve and having its opposite ends terminating short of the contact pins, and compressibleelectric connections between the opposite ends of the conductor and the adjacent ends of the contactpins.
