SPRAY NOZZLE.
Application filed April 11, 1927, Serial No.
The present invention relates to spray nozzles of the adjustable type in Wl11Cl1 the nozzle proper can turn on the threaded end of the outlet-pipe of any spraylng appara tus, in order to set or adjust the spray, and in which this threaded end is an independent piece which may be screwed on the out let-pipe of said apparatus.
Its object is to provide a nozzle of this type, which is easy to, manufacture and 1n which an efiicient tightness of the nozzles joining on the pipe is very simply obtained Besides, the end of the pipe in thls nozzle terminates in the shape of the whirler member, and the oblique or spiral passages, recessed into the periphery of this whirler member, are widened at their outlet 1n order to obtain intermediate degrees of fineness of the spray between the mist and the full spray.
In the accompanying drawings Figs. 1
and 2 are axial sectlons of an embodiment of the invention in two different setting posi tions, and Fig. 3 a plan View of the whirler member. I
This embodiment consists of 3 parts: a, b, a. One end of part a is threaded at an n order to be screwed on the outlet-pipe of any kind of spraying apparatus. Besides, this part a is provided with a threaded part a and terminates at its other end with a full cylindrical part a which forms the whirler member. Between this whirler member a and the threaded'part a is formed an annular groove (0*. a shows the axial bore fitted for the passage of the liquid through part a. a indicates two radial passages which give communication between thebore ai'and the groove a Into the periphery of the whirler member a are drilled the usual oblique or spiral passages a which cause the whirling of the liquid necessary for atomizing the spray.
According to the invention, the section of these passages a is enlarged, as shown by a (see Fig. 3), on the side facing the outlet.
in order to'obtain intermediate degrees of fineness of the spray between the mist (Fig. 1) andtull spray (Fig. 2). g
The nozzle proper consists of two parts, 6, 0, screwed together, between which is enclosed a tightening leather-ring d. y The piece.
182,851, and in Switzerland March 16, 1926.
stufiing-box 0 may be screwed more or less deeply on the threaded portion a of part a, in order to adjust the spray. Y
WVhen the nozzle is set for the mist spray (Fig. 1), the liquid, arriving inv the annular groove a through both passages a and the axial bore a cannot escape but through the little passages a To the contrary, when the nozzle is set for the full'spray (Fig. 2), the liquid is allowed to escape from the groove a all around the whirler member a This is made possible by the fact that the bore of the nozzle proper b has a cylindrical hollow part b from same diameter as the whirler member a3.
This embodiment may undergo several variations without the principle of this invention being affected. For instance, the nozzle proper Z), c mightconsist of one single In this case, the tightening-leatherring (Z would be enclosed within an inner groove ofthat piece.
Finally, there may be more than two passages a or a.
I claim:
A spray nozzle comprising two comple- I the outer member having a cylindrical seat into which. said terminal portion fits as said members approach their limit of relative movement in one direction, said inner member being of reduced diameter below said terminal portion forming with said outer [member an annular recess, said inner member being provided with a longitudinal bore and a transverse bore communicating therew1th and wlth said recess, said outer mem her being formed with a conical walled chamber in advance of the cylindrical ter- .minal portion of saidinner member communicating with the inclined passages therein, and being placed in communication with,
said annular recess when said cylindrical terminal portion is withdrawn from 1ts seat 1n the outer member.
In testimony whereof I have signed .my
name to this specification. V
EDOUARD SCHLAEPFER.
