As is well known, the development of selfshaving is more or less tied up with the development of what is known as the safety razor, of which there are numerous types on 1;; the market. i

While the factors of convenience and cleanliness have had a great deal to do with the almost universal practice of men to shave themselves, the greatest factor that has re- Lio sulted in its universal development, and which factor has become of the greatest importance, is the saving resulting, particularly in'view of the fact that the cost of shaving in establishments known as barber 13-13 shops, has increased with the general rise in the cost of all commodities and of service.

The average individual, however, does not sit down to calculate, and even after he has done so, does not keep in mind that while at each shave he saves eighteen cents, that in the aggregate, for a period of ayear, the saving will run over and above and even where he does realize and keep in mind this aggregate of saving, there is no actual evidence-thereofas by a distinct segregated accumulation of suchsaving over a period of time. 7

Another important Object of my invention is the provision of such a character of case for the safety razor, which will not only at all times remind a man of the fact that he is saving by shaving himself and will suggest to'him the fact that he permit the savings to accumulate, but which will give him a physical arrangement whereby accumulations of such savings can be made so that at the end of any stated period, as for in-- stance, at the end of six months or a year,

economically constructed" and effective container, and more particularly one intended to associate containers having a single aim in view, one of which 'is to serve a bank.

For the attainment of these objects and of such other objects as may hereinafter appear or be pointed out, I have illustrated one embodiment of my invention 'in the draw 'ings wherein: Fig. 1 1s a perspective view of the container with one end open, exposing the shaving outfit.

pon comparing Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, it will be observed that my container comprises generally the body portion 10 which is open at opposite ends and is divided intermediate such open ends by the partition 11 into upper and lower compartments 12 and 13 for which compartments the members 14 and 15 serve as closures.

The body member 10 is preferably formed of two sections 16 and 17, each of which is preferably made of a metal stamping and which for the purposes of the present disclosure are alike in all respects and the description of one of which will. therefore sutfice for both. The sections 16 and 17 are preferably stamped so as to provide each with a continuous upstanding wall 18 fo ming four sides of the section and the bottom 19 which is cut away as shown in the drawings in order to reduce the weight of the section, as well as for other purposes that will appear, thus giving the bottom 19 the formation of a flange continuous with the four sides of the wall 18.

The two sections 16 and 17 are then asseinbled by causing the bottom flanges of the tube to be brought into contactual association, these bottom flanges then being permanently united in any preferred or desired manner as by, the buttons 20.

This body portion of the container is then finished exteriorly in any desired or pre ferred manner as by passing thereabout acovering member 21 which can be made of any readily flexible, yet relatively stiff material, such as ca'dboard and. the ends of which are joined in an overlapped position as shown at 22 in Fig. 3. The body member is then finally finished oli' exteriorly byv an outermost covering 23 which may be made of a material to imitate leather, which is shown as arranged to be passed over the upper and lower edges of the assembledsections 16 and 17 and the cover member 21.

In the upper compartment 11 is positioned the composite structure comprising the base member 26 and the block 27, shaped as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawing and arranged so as to form seats and compartments for a razor and a blade receptacle as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The members 26 and 27 are covered preferably as shown in these figures with an attractive plush-like material for purposes of convenience and attractiveness. The base member 26 serves, as will be understood, to complete the. bottom closure partly formed by the flange 19 which is cut away as already described.

The block 27 is provided with the slot 30 passing therethrough andiin order that the inclusion of this slot may not reduce the available area of the container 25, it is placed relatively close to one wall, preferably to the front wall of the body member 10 and the basemember 26 is cut away in registry with the slot and as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The flange is similarly cut away so that on the onehand, the slot does not reduce materially the space of the contain-er 25 and on the other hand, the flange 19 which forms substantially the main support for the partition 11 intermediate to the top and bottom of the body member 10 serves its function effectively.

The lower container member 32 is also provided with a base member 33 made of any desired or preferred relatively stiff material such as cardboard, this member 33 being slotted as shown at 34 in registry with the cutout 35 in the flanges 19 and the cutout in the base men'iber 26 and the slot 30. In this manner, I provide a slot 30 of a size to receive coins of various values which slot open at one end to the upper receptacle and in which, as stated, are to be received the shaving implements that form the partition into the lower compartments 12.

T he cover members 14 and 15, the former for. the upper compartment 12 and the lower for the lower compartment 13 are of any desired or preferred character, contours, and dimensions and are preferably pivoted to the bottom member 10 as by the hinge members 40 and 41 secured together by pintle 42.

Upon viewing Fig. 4 of the drawing, it will be observed that I use the leaf spring 44 which is of such a character that it maintains the covers in either the closed or open position. The covermembers 14 and 15 which may preferably be alike in all respects, each comprise the stamping 45 having the continuous side walls as shown and provided with the flange 46 cut away centrally at 47 and also cut away at predetermined points asshown at 48, through which openings 48 are received the prongs 49 cut out from the. closure base member 50 and bent around the flange 46.

The side members 45 and the cover base member 50 are finished off exteriorly in any desired or preferred manner as by being leather.

Attached to the front of the wall 17 of the container 13, is. the member '53, (see Figs. 2 and 3) provided with an opening 54 in which is to he received catch 55, movable within the casing 56 and controlled to move to its locked and unlocked position by means covered by a material 51, in imitation of of a conventional type of key. The compartment '12 is as already stated intended to contain a safety razor outfit as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, whereas the compartment 13 is intended to serve as a savings bank and for this reason as has already been described, the compartment 13 is arranged to be locked, whereas the compartment 12 is arranged to beopened atwill and not locked.

It will be understood from the description thus far given, that I have provided a safety razor container, which is so constructed that anyone attempting to use the razor container therein for shaving, will not only necessarily have brought to his attention the fact that there is a saving resulting from shaving himself, but also that such a saving should be deposited in the compartment 12 through the opening 30. In addition to this, the closures for this container are so constructed that while the closure for the razor compartmetal stamping, having a continuous front,-

side and rear wall construction and a flange extending inwardly therefrom and continuous with the walls, the sections being assembled with the flanges in contact, whereby the container is formed with its interior divided by the flanges into upper and lower compartments, and means associated with the flanges for complete, dividing partition between the compartments, a flexible covering passed about the container and a finishing covering passed over the upper and lower edges of the assembled sections.

In a device of the character described, a container having compartments upon two opposite faces thereof and made up of a plurality of sections, each section being in the form of a metal stamping, having a con tinuous front, side and rear wall construction and a flange extending inwardly therefrom and continuous with the walls, the sec tions being assembled with the flanges in contact, whereby the container is formed with its interior divided by the flanges into upper and lower compartments, and a coin slot opening through the flanges from one compartment to the other, closures pivoted at opposite faces of said container to close the compartments and means associated with each pivot to maintain the closures in either open or closed position.

3. A shaving and saving device of the character described, includlng a container for a razor and savings made up of a plurality oftray-like sections, each section being in the form of a metal stamping having a continuous front, side and rear wall construction and a flange extending inwardly thereform and continuous with the walls, the sections being asembled with the flanges in contact, and base members above and'below the flanges provided with aligned slots, whereby the container is formed. with its interior divided by the flanges and base' members into upper and lower compartments connected only by said slots.
