Description
u y 19 1927 E. Cox
HOLDER FOR LABELS Filed Nov. E5. 1926 nrromrzy Patented July 19, 1 927.
INITED STATES IBERTRAM COX, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
HOLDER FOR LABELS.
Application filed November 6, 1926, Serial No. 146,797, and in Great Britain November M, 1925.
'ihis invention relates to holders for labels used for horticultural purposes, and it has for its object a construction which is simple and inexpensive to produce and which will effectively protect the label under all climatic conditions.
I attain this end by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing in which Figures 1 and 2 are views in front elevation and sectional side elevation respectively of the improved holder arranged to be suspended in use, and Figures 3, 4t, 5, and 6 are similar views of the holder arranged to be staked in use.
Throughout the views similar parts are marked with like numerals of reference.
The improved holder consists essentially of a transparent cup-shaped receptacle 1 adapted to receive a circular label 2 and a closing element 3 which fits tightly in and approximately fills said receptacle so that it both seals it and by hearing against the back of the label keeps same in position.
For supporting purposes the receptacle 1 is provided either with a pierced lug l shown in Figures 1 and 2, adapted to receive the material by which it is hung or with a circumferential groove 5 as shown in Figures 5 and 6 to receive the wire of the stake 7. When the stake consists of a flat piece of wood it may conveniently be attached to the closing element 3 by fixing it on to said element as shown in Figures 3 and 4;.
Although for ease of, and economy in,
manufacture I make the receptacle of glass or othcr transparent material it is within the spirit and scopeot my invention to make only that part oi the holder against which the face oi the label bears transparent.
W hat I claim is 1. A label holder comprising a transparent shallow cup-shaped receptacle adapted to contain a disc label and expose it through its bottom, and a plug of compressible material for closing said receptacle and holding said label in position within the receptacle.
2. A label holder comprising a shallow cup-shaped receptacle having a flat bottom adapted to contain a label and expose it through said bottom, and a compressible plug for fitting in said receptacle so as to close same and hold the label in position therein.
3. In combination with a disc label of a holder comprising a one-piece shallow cupshaped receptacle having a flat transparent bottom, and a compressible plug adapted to close said receptacle and to retain the label in position against the transparent bottom of the receptacle.
4;. A holder for horticultural labels comprising a circular receptacle having one open end and flat face at the other end said fiat face being t'ansparent, a plug of compressible material for closing the open end of said receptacle the length of said plug being such that it approximately fills said receptacle, and means attached to the recep-' tacle for supporting the device when in. use.
