PATENT 'ei-"Fires,
MILronn; IOWA,
BARBER@ DISPENSINGABQTTLE.
- l.lippncanmi inea ivfivemberr s, i926. isrii'itofiiaili.
This invention relates to a bottle for use ot barbera in dispensing tonics or other liquids, andliasfor its object'to providey a stopper which will not readily become detached -from the neck of the bottle, will prevent leakage ot the contents of the bottle and will not cause injui'yrto the scalpduring use. s, f f
Also the yinvention includes means tor sealing the contents when the tonic is shipped `from the factory. Another object is to providea stopper which will provide a handheld t'or an operator while dispensing `the tonic from the bottle and will prevent i water from entering the bottle while being cleaned or washed. u
71th the foregoing objects in View, the invention presents a novel and useful construction, combination and arrangement of parts as rdescribed herein and claimed, as illus- In order that the benefits justfinentioned f j may be attained I have provided a stopper 4 of resilient material, and 'or this purpose ordinary sott rubber may be used to advan-` tagg y y s Itis provided with a sleeve 5 orclosely engaging ythe neck 6 ot the bottle and a hollow, annular boss 7 for engagingthe rim or annular ridge 8 of the neck and isprovided with* a projection `9y extending outwardly from the boss.
In the present instanceknopart of the stopper is disposed in the neck ot the bottley and therefore it will not become loose` f Since'the parts are elastic the collar snugly lits the 'neck and while `the device may bek forcibly removed, the ridge 8 no`rmally will prevent removal.'
Numeral l() indicates a keeper or screw for Y ruse ot' the u'ianutacturer when shipping the goods, who inserts it in thei narrow passage way 1l to prevent leakage therethrough.
v,Before using the bottle and before dispensing its contents the screw or keeper is removed and is not again used or inserted. It .is well known that when applying the 'contents' to the hair, the contents are removed by agitation, (shaking), and interruptedparin movements above `and toward tliehead, and in order that accidental injury or laeerations of the scalp will not occur by these movements, the stopper is provided with the projection 9 and since the stopper is elastic no injury will occur.
Since bottles are generally constructed ot y glass the hand of 4an operator often slides on the neck. In the present instance the sleeve 5 provides a hand-hold so that the bottle may be firmly and conveniently held.
It is wel'l known that the Stoppers generally used in barbers tonic bottles often be-kr come loose so that they become detached during the operation of dispensing the tonic but, asshown and describedherein, the contents cannot beremoved by accident or otherwise except by a movement of the liquid through the constricted passageway 11.
"Another advantage in the use ot the device is that the water will not enter the bottle by moving therein between the stopper and neck, torthe reason that the lsleeve is closely itted to the outer sui-tace oi' the neck,
this being a feature of advantage since tor n i' i sanitary reasons the bottles require occasional washings.` n
The keeper may have any` suitable construction provided it has threads similar to screw-threads andk these threads may ent gage soft rubber in a passageway, and will not permit leakage, and theyfinay be conveniently removed as before mentioned'.
s Vhile I have shown and described construction in detail, I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself in this respect, and changes may be made in form, size, proportion and minor details as found to be of advantage, said changes being determined kby tlieyscope of the invention as claimed.
I claim as my invention;-
In combination with a bottle having an elongated neck with a bead thereon, a bottle vstopper comprising a resilient symmetrical integral head and sleevesaid s'leeve adapted to embrace theouter portion of the bottle neck and liavinga boss at the juncture or" the sleeve andhead to interlock with`r the f bead, saidA head having a symmetrical projection extending outwardly from its central portion and having rounded exposed sured to be forced into said plain passage for faces to Contact With the human part to causing the resilient material to enter into 10 which contents of the bottle s being apthe spaces between the threads of the shank plied, said head and projection having a conto form a leak-tight fit.
tinuous passage therethrough opening into In testimony whereof, have affixed my the bottle neck and to the exterior, the inner signature.
`Wall of said passage being plain, and a stopv per element having a threaded shankadapt e ROY DEPUE.
