Application led November This invention relates to improvements in fowl roosts, particularly in improved means for accommodating a maximum number of 'fowls, chickens or the likein a minimum space. y l
An object of this invention is to provide readily accessible means for accumulating fowl or chicken manure with the least pos'- sible loss thereof.
y Another object of this invention is to pro* vide suitabley removable roostingelements within the means for retaining` the manure.
Further objects of-thisinvention liev vin the provision of means for suitably locking` the roosts in a set position, the general conformation `ofthe roosts being circular and adapted to rotatewhen released from looked relationship. The trays 4- in this invention are arranged circumferentially of the roost every other radial member 2 havingl loosely carried thereon, two trays 41.-, while the remaining radial menibers willv have only one trav carried thereon. Although this 'disclosure calls lfor radial menibers.. it is to be understood that the sides of the roost may be of solid i'nvaterialfor otherwise, the trays beingp arranged in the manner described above.l y
The trays 4l are preferably constructed of klight sheet metal although the type of material used in their construction will not af feet the merits of the invention.Y The tray is preferably providedpwith side. portions d and 7 with the ends' open in order to retain the chicken manure in an easily vaccessible position.l The tray e may be providedjwith suitable braces 8 attachedto the under surface thereof. Any suitable means tor rotating the roost when released trom locked position, mav be provided Without :infecting the merits or this having elasping lingers 27 at one einl thereof for the purpose ot easily connecting with the trame- Work ot the roost as at the brace 2. @briously, the leverage provided by the detachable arm 26, Will enable the roost to be easily rotated tor purpose ot cleaning the trays, roosting bar and otherwise.
ln this invention, the roosting device is rotatably mounted on suitable supporting elements 16, that may be fastened into tie ground or otherwise, the upper portion ot the support 16 to be suitably supplied .vith a journal 2S, adapted to carry the spindle 3 in a rotatable manner. y
In operation this invention provides a rotatable roost upon which a maximum ninnber ot oWls may roost in a minimum amount of space and at the same time, be supplied with a proper amount et tresh air which is necessary for retaining the health otl the towls.
The arrangement ot the trays is such that a fowl may easily reach any one ot the roosting bars Without unnecessary crowding or inconvenience. Many experiment-s and devices have been made in orderto assure a. maximum saving ot the manure, and it is believed this device or rotatable roosts provides a tray and tray arrangement that will assure practically a complete saving ot thev fertilizer,
lt is apparent that the poultry may easily assume positions on the roosts provi-ded in this invention, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, the trays and roosts are clearly open except between the ends, the poultry Will jiunp, iiy or otherwise to the desired point, tor this purpose plenty of space is allowed between the trays, Which are substantially held in position by means ot suitable locking delocked relationship with theY vices. No disadvantage will result from a slight tilting ot the tray, When the poultry is seeking to roost.
Flhe roost in this invention may be easily rotated by hand when desired and each tray carefully cleaned attcr being rem ved from the roost or While still carried in the roost. rllhe roost bars in this invention are also easily removed trom the device and may therefore be etliciently cleaned and kept sanitary.
The trays in this invention are loosely hung at their ends from suitable portions ot the roost and arranged alternately in spaced relationship in single and double 'formation concentrically et the centre et' the roost.
The means tor locking the roost into: stationary position in this invention is exceedingly simple and eliicient, consisting of locking plates or key portions for the trays and a locking lever for the roosting device in its assembled form.
nWhat l claim is:
y 1. t rotatable roost having a multiplicity ot trays hung loosely from the sides thereof, roosting bars supported by the trays, means for 'locking the trays into substantially rigid relationship, separate means tor locking the roost into a stationary' position, the means consisting ot suitably keyed plates having notches therein, the notches being adapted to cooperate with suitable elements at the ends o'f the trays.

A rotatable roost having a multiplicity of trays hung loosely from the sides thereof, roos'ting bars supported by the trays, means for locking the trays into substantially rigid relationship, separate means for locking the roost into a stationary position, the means consisting of suitably keyed plates having notches therein, the notchesbeing adapted to cooperate With suitable elements at the ends of the trays, the separate means consisting` of a locking bar loosely attached at one end end of the bar being free to establish a locked relationship at a desired point of the periphery of the roost, the trays being loosely swung at their ends from suitable portions of the roost and arranged in spaced relation in single and double formation concentrically of the center of the roost,' manual means for rotating the roost when released from locked relationship, comprising a handle bar suitably supplied With attachable elements adapted to connect with a portion of the roost.
