CARTON-VENDING DEVICE.
applicati@ mea February 1s, 1926. serial no. 89,036.
This invention relates to a device for vending paper cartons in which semi liquid or solid food, such as oysters, ice-cream, salad and the like are sold.
An object of my invention is to provide a device of the character stated, from which the cartons may be readily taken one at a time and with very little effort.
Another object is to provide a sanitary and sightly container for paper cartons.
@ther objects are simplicity of construction and effectiveness in operation.
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims.
In the drawing illustrating my invention.
Fig. 1, is a front elevation of my vending device.
Fig.'2, is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 Fig. 1.
Fig. 3, is a fragmentary sectional rview taken on line 3-3 Fig. 2.
Fig. 4, is an enlarged fragmentary vSectional view showing the carton .retaining roller and support therefor.
Fig. 5, is a fragmentary front view of a device showing a slightly modied forni of carton retainer.
Fig. 6, is an enlarged sectional View talren on line 6 6 Fig. 5.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, my vendingidevice comprises aV substantially rectangular cabinet 1, on the front of which a door 2 is provided. The door extends from a wall 3 across the front of the cabinet to adjacent the bottom of said cabinet, a space 4L being left at the bottom through which the cartons are withdrawn.
The cartons 5 are nested in each other, and the bails 6 thereof extend forwardly and are spaced from the body of the carton shown in Figs. 2 and 4. The balls are formed of metal having suflicient stiffness to support a column of cartons, and the cabinet is so formed that the cartons will readily fit therein, and still move readily as Awill be further described.
A supporting strip 7 preferably formed of metal is threaded through all of the bails 6, and extends substantially the length of the cabinet. The lower end of the strip eX- tends below the lower edge of the door 2, and the upper end of said lstrip is supported on a. spring clip -8 which extends through al 5'? slot therein. rlhe clip rest-S against a strap 9V secured to the wall 3, and a handle 10 is secured to the end of the clip which protrudes through the wall sothat said clip can be retracted to release the strip 7.. A pair of rollers 11, are journaled on the lower end of the strip 7, and are preferably formed of a soft fibrous material. The bail l6 ofthe lower carton 5 rests on the rollers 11 yas shown in Figs. 2 and 4t thus'supporting they column of cartons in the cabinet. The rollers llare spaced apart so that the thumb of the operator can pass between said rollers and press upon the bail. Pressure on the bail 6 causes the rollers 11 to rotate slightly and releases said bail after which a slight downward pull will release the carton, and the nextcarton above will drop down and rest by its bail on the rollers.. Thus a single' carton is vended by'using only one hand, and Without tearing o r mutilating them.
' In Figs. 5 and 6. I haveV shown a slightly modified form ofA vending device in which cartonshaving no bails are placed. yA strip l2 is fastened in the cabinet 1 at the lower end of theV door 2and a notch 13V is provided 'therein, in Awhich'the flaps 14 of the carton 15 is exposed. A pair of spring lingers 16 are secured to. the strip 12 and are formed with av small hook 17 thereon, on which the flaps .14 rest. The carton is Vended yby pushing the flap 14 rearwardly off'the hools 17 and pulling downwardly to release the carton, whereupon the next carton above drops down upon the hooks.
If desired a glass panel 18 `can be set in the door 2, so that the number of cartons in the cabinet can be ascertained.
Having described my invention I claim.
- 1. A device for vending cartons comprising a cabinet having an opening adjacent the lower end thereof, said cabinet being adapted to contain a column of nested cartons having bails thereon, a strip 1n said cabinet, rollers on said strip, said rollers engaging` the bails as the cartons are vended through said opening.
2. A device for vending Cartons eornpris ing a cabinet having an opening); adjacent the lower end thereof, said Cabinet being adapted to Contain a column of nested carton-s having hails therein, a strip removably mounted in said Cabinet, Said strip being adapted to be threaded through the hails, a. pair of spaced rollers journaled on the l0 lower end of said strip, said rollers being adapted to engage the bail of the lower earton to support said cartons inthe cabinet.
In testimony whereof I a'HiX iny si gnature.
