This invention relates to metalcorner or end devices for radiator covers and furniture. V v j A particular object of'the invention' is-to provide metal corner pieces or end pieces which can be joined by connecting strips of any length which are cut to suit the purpose to which the device is to be put. F or instance, in one embodiment of the idea, I have illustrated the end or corner piece as applied to the-construction of a radiator cover and to this end, it willbe evident that the height and length of the radiator will determine the height and length of the connecting pieces which go to make up the completed cover.

A further particular object of the inven tion' is" to provide in a radiator cover or furniture 'constructiom, an end casting or piece to which may beconnected longitudif naland Vertical strip members which have been cut to any desired length and which may be quickly made up with a minimum of time andlabor.

A further particular object of the invention is to provide cast endswhich: may be adapted to the purposes outlined and which will be. so cast as to provide pockets and shelves for the reception of the vertical core ner strips and also the longitudinal connecting pieces, so that the same when made up into a completed unit will produce a very pleasing effect and whenapplied as a cover for radiators, will conceal the radiator and will give an ornamental and pleasing effect to the same. f .v

To enable others skilled in the art to fully comprehend the underlyingfeaturesof my invention that they may embody the same in the'various modifications in structure and relation contemplated, a drawing depicting a preferred form has been annexed as apart of thisdisclosure and in such drawings, similar reference characters denote correspond ing parts throughout all the views, of which,

Referring to the drawings in detail, 5 indicates a radiator cover, it being of course distinctlyunderstood that the showing of a radiator cover is used for illustrative-pur-' poses onlyand thatthe end pieces to which my invention is particularly directed may be applied in the making up-of chests, chair seats, or any other article of furniture, such for instance, as bureaus, buffets, and the like, and, in the drawings, the radiator cover comprises the end the opposite ends of the radiator being sima ilar, itis not thought that description of both ends is necessary. It being sufiicient to say that the numeral 6 designates theftop pieces or castings 6 and 7 i end piece while the numeral 7 designates ing 10. These openings arefurnished for the accommodation of screws, which willbe used to hold the connectingpieces to bejh'ereina'fter described in place. The end piece-6 is made up of a solid casting of metal or it may bepunched out of sheet metalto pro vide the various pockets and flanges to be described. I

The corner block'8 has extending there from the connecting portion l2'of the end piecev and it is cast to'provideon its inner face, the flanges 13, the upper one of which is in the plane with the top of the lug 9 and provides in said end piece axshelf 14; This shelf 14 accommodating va suitable top panel or closure 15, which fits snugly into place on said shelf 14 in the end pieces 6. The front end of the connecting piece or portion 12 is provided with a frontcorner block 16 which is rounded as at 17 and providedwith any particular design desired to produce a pleasing and ornamental effect. The bottom end piece is provided as is the top end piece with the connecting member 22, which, on its inner face is cast to provide flanges 23, the upper of which forms, with the outer face of the end piece '7, a panel supporting shelf 24. A suitable square, vertical, corner strip 25 is provided at the back of the radiator cover and extends between the block 8 on the upper end piece and the block 26for1ned on the lower end piece, the latter being pro vided with an upstanding lug 27, which has suitable openings therein whereby the vertical cornerstrip 25 may be secured in posi, tion between the block 8 and block 26.

Extending between'the flanges 13 on the upper end piece and the flanges 23 on the lower endpiece is the end panel'28 which closes the end .of therad'iator cover and con ceals the radiator from/view, The lower corner piece is providedwith horizontally extending lugs 29 which are similar to the horizontally extending. lugs 9, formed on the upper end piece 6, and areprovided with screw openings through the medium of which,the end piece may be secured ,to the edge connecting piecesBO. In all of these connecting pieces, it will be noted that they are constructed of wood, or. other relatively soft material and can be cut in suitablelength to provide a long or short radiator cover and alsov the vertical cornerstrip 20 may be cut so that variations in the height of the radiator cover may be obtained. It will be noted in the top block 8 that the boss 9 is cut back therefrom as at 30 andthiscut back, provides a receptacle for the back panel 31, the bottom of the panel resting on the extended portion 32 of the lug 29, formed on the bottom end piece.

These end pieces are provided with suitable legs or feet 38 which may be suitably ornamented to provide a pleasing appearance. The connecting parts 12 of the end pieces are also suitably ornamented upon their face to provide a beautiful and ornamental effect to the device when thesame is completed.

The edge connecting pieces, as before described are made of molding or other like wood frame and are cut to provide, as at 34,

a panel receiving edge or flute. The panel 35 is provided at the front of the radiator cover and arranged to conceal the radiator but perforated in any suitable design to allow radiation of the heat therethrough. This panel 35 rests in a suitable cut-out 36 in the vertical corner strips 20. and .on the seat 18 formedin the corner block 19 of the bottom end pieces 7. It will be evident, therefore, that the positioning of the edge connecting pieces in place through the medium of suitable screws as shown in Figure 3, will complete the construction of the radiator .c ver- The rear panel may be solid, if desired, and itgislprovided to prevent thedust from accumulating on the wall at the back of the radiator.

, It will be evident therefore that I have provided, as illustrated, an ornamental radiator covering, the length and height of which canbe varied to suit the particular radiator in connection with which my device is. to be used. I While Ihave illustrated and described my invention withsome degree of particularity I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made.v I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering thearrangement. of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
