The invention relates to battle construc- :cions for steam boilers. It is applicable to boilers of all types in which a steam liberating space is provided above the level of the water. Its hangers are preferably con structed entirely of cast iron, in order to withstand the destructive action of the Water or agents carried thereby, and the device is built in sections in such manner that the parts are interchangeable, rendering .replacement or removal easy. The apparatus is constructed so as to utilize the upper part of the boilerdrum as the dry steam chamber, in contrast to other devices which carry the steam chamber ,as a part of their c0nstruction. The invention has for its objects, the provision of .a construction embodying the features specified above, wherein: (l) a very durable construction is secured, without any requirement for bolts and nuts, subject to :rust or corrosive action; (2) film battles ,are

self-draining, requiring no outside drainage andlconsequent lossof heated w'aterand corresponding reduction in efficiency; (3) a very elficient :bafiling .of the wet steam is secured, incident to the tortuous passage required and to the relative arrangement of the steam to pass through the the baffle plates; (-lthevarious plates and baflles are effectively sealed, one from the other, to insure against leakage and cause slots provided for the purpose; (5.) the battles are all properly drained and :the passages shielded against an inflow .of .water in the reverse direction through such passages, and; (6;) a relatively cheap, simple construction iis secured, which may be easily assembled and disassembled for the purposes of replacement and repair. Oneembodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Referring to the drawings, 1 is a steam drum having anoutlet 2, and provided with hangers 3 and 42 preferably of cast iron located on opposite sides of the outlet and secured in position by means of'the studs 5. The combination with a substantially horizontal steam drum, of a pair of hangers extending longitudinally of the drum on opposite sides of the steam outlet and secured to the walls of the drum, a perforated distributing plate seated upon the hangers, and a series of baffle plates one above the other suspended from the distributing plate, each of said bafifle plates having a series of parallel drain passages discharging at one end thereof, and each of said balfie plates having a series of vertical steam passages extending therethrough between the drain passages, and one of said hangers being extended down along the ends of the baflles to act as a splash shield for the ends of said channels.
