Application filed September 23, 1925. Serial No. 53,05i.
This invention relates to an improvement in diapers, which will have the advantages of the ordinary napkin diaper now in common use and ofa shape-to fit the body of a child like a pair ofdrawers.
The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combination of parts which will be hereinafter described and set forth in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a view in front elevation showing the invention,
Figure 2 is a similar view in rear elevation' Figure 3 is a plan view of the invention of the inner side of the diaper;
Figure 4 is a similar view showing the pad applied; v
Figures 5 and 6 are sectlonal views of the pad 26. Fig. 7 is a sectional vlew of pad 30.
The diaperor body portion 10 1s preferably made of canton flannel or some similar material. The body portion 10 is wider at the top or waist portion 11 and gradually tapers downwardly toward the lower end 12. The waist portion 11 is provided with a button 13, at one endand a button hole 14 at the other,so that as the waist portion is placed about the body of the infant the two edges will overlap and be fastened together. Located on the outer surface of the body 10 are buttons 15, 15 which are arranged practically over the hlp portions of the diaper.
The lower portion or extension 12 has two button holes 16, 16 on each edge thereof in which the buttons 15, 15am received when the lower portion 12 is folded or brought up between the legs of the infant and overlies the ends of the waist portion 11.
The body portion 10 isprovided with an opening 17, preferably oval" in shape, in which is received a sack 18 of waterproof material. The sack 18 is provided with snap fasteners 19 along its edges, and similar fasteners are attached to the body portion 10 around the edge of the opening 17, for engagement with the-fasteners of the sack for connecting the sack to the body portion.
The body portion 10 is preferably constructed of two sections and stitched together at the inner'edges through the longitudinal center of the garment. The inner edges of the sections of the lower portion 12 are cut on a bias from the opening 17, so
and the fullness created by stitching the bias that when the lower end is attached to the waist portion 11 the sack 18 will beheld open forming a cavity or receptacle. The inner edges of the sections of the lower portion or extension 12 are brought to ether so and stitched and in so doing the centra portron of the garment will have a certain fullncss causing the garment to be wrinkled when lyingflat as indicated clearly in Figure 3. However, when the extension is folded upon and attached to the waistportlon as indicated in Figures 1 and 2 the central portion of .the garment will be drawn inwardly into the crotch of the wearer thereby taking up the fullness and causing the garment toconform to the body of the wearer. The folding of the extension upon the waist portion on a line transversely of the garment causes the edges around the opening 17, to be drawn toward the longitudinal center line of the garment and the outer edges of the'garment to project downwardly so that the central portion of the garment produces a V-shaped crotch edges of the extension together is thereby taken up by these edges around the opening'17 moving inwardly and producing the V-shapcd crotch and thereby producing a garment which will have a smooth and comfortable fit which will conform to the bodyof the wearer.
A flap 20 is sewed to the body portion 10 near the upper edge thereof on the inner surface of the garment and is provided at its free edge with snap fasteners 21, 21 for engagement with snap fasteners 22, 22 attached to the body portion. Another flap 23 is sewed to the lower end 12 adjacent the opening 17, and is provided with snap fasteners 24, and 25 attached thereto. The flaps 20 and 23 are provided for supporting and holding a pad 26 constructed of suitable absorbent material, such as absorbent pa or or absorbent paper and cotton. The pa end to fit over the snap fasteners 21 and 22 and an opening at the other end to receive the snap fasteners 24: and 25.
The pad 26 is made wide at one end or 105 receptacle of the sack. An additional pad 110 g is 1 provided with two opemngs 27, 27 at one collecting and holding any urine that cannot be retained by the absorbent'pads. With this garment the pads may be removed when soiled and destroyed or disposed of, and new pads substituted, eliminating the Washing of diaper. napliins.
In making a garment in this manner, there is no binding of the sameabout the legs of the infant as when the usual waterproof pants are employed as the body and legs of the infant are' covered with a fabric or cloth body- 10, andthe sack 18 is prevented from contacting with the body by the pad 26, so that a perfectly comfortable garment is provided and by which the disadvantages of the air-tight and waterproof garments generally employed are overcome.
lhe sack 18 is made removable so that the garment may be laundered and the sack washed as each require difi'erent methods of cleansing to prevent the destruction of the it be so desired.
Lemma waterproof material from which the sack is constructed.
It is to be understood that the diaper napkin maybe used in connection with the garment in lieu of the absorbent pad should 1 Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A garment comprising abody portion made in two longitudinal sections, and means connecting the inner edges of the sec tions together for forming a waist portion and an extension, said body having an openingformed therein between the waist portion and the extension and adapted to receive a sack, the inner edges of the sections of the extension being cut on an angle with respect to the inner;edges, of the sections of the waist portion for producing a fullness in the garment whenattached together between the waist portion and the extension, said extension being laid upon the waist portion and attached thereto and causing the inner edges of the sections through the center of the garment to be drawn inwardly for taking up the fullness and producing an inverted V-shaped crotch below the waist portion of the garment.-
