sneer or rowan MATERIAL.
Original application filed September 12, 1924, Serial in). 737,281. nivmeaand this application filed November 1, 1928.
This invention relates to improvements in folded tissue or thin paper sheets, for'use as napkins, towels, toilet paper, lunch wrappings and likearticles. p
c The subject matter of this application is a division of aco-pending application filed by me on the 12th day of September, 1924:, bearing Serial No, 7 37 ,281. v
The-primary object of this present inven- H11 tion is the provision of a sheet of material, of this character, wherein the same is folded upon itself in a unique manner, so that the folded article will have a double thickness at the point where the same will be grasped,
flu whether within a dispenser therefor or other container, on its removal therefrom, and also will automatically become partially or complete'ly unfolded,,-thuseliminating any additional efiort for theinitial un olding of an the article, when being extracted or drawn the article completely folded.
from the holder or container, the. double thickness being effective to prevent. the tear-- ing of the material and giving added strength to the article atthe time when the same is required for the successful withdragal of such article as a unit or unmutilate Another object of the invention is the' provision of a sheet of material of this character, wherein it is foldedin such manner that a double thickness of grasping area is located eateriorl of-the along one edge at oth sides of the same, so that irres e'ctive of which side of the article is on rmost of a stack within a dispenser or holder therefor, the said article can be withdrawn in "a quick and convenient manner, without liability of the same being mutilated or torn, and with resultant initial unfoldin of such article.
A furt er object of the invention is the provision of a sheet of material of this character, wherein the folding thereof enables the article to be compact and to insure a single'one to be grasped at a time, and in entractin the same for removing it from a suitable dispenser or container in which a superimposed pile or-stack of the articles may be placed the article will not become torn or mutilated, as it will be of double ply or thickness thepoint wherein the same will be grasped.
still further object of the-invention is provision of a sheet of material of this lded article Serial No. 145,565.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out. I
' The improvements in the details and ar rangement of construction will be apparent from an inspection of the accompanying drawings, in connection with the specific description hereinafter contained; and wherethe preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed'for the purpose of imparting a full understanding of the same.
In the accompanying drawings:.
Figure 1, is a plan View of a sheet of material showing the lines along which the same is folded in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2, is a perspective view showing Figure 3, is a perspective view illustrating the article partially unfolded when extracted from a pile orstack or. taken from the dispenser. I
Figure 4, is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Fig: ure 2;
Similar reference characters indicate correspondin parts throughout the several views in t e drawin s.
Referring to the rawings in detail, particularly Figure 1, there is illustrated a sheet constituting the blank from which the article is folded in accordance with the invention. This sheet A, of paper'or other material to be used as a napkin, towel, toilet paper, lunch wrapping or otheriarticle may be of any desired or. necessary size and as will be understood-of any type or quality of paper or other material, preferably tissue or thin crepe stock.
The sheet A, is primarily folded along the median line 10, which is styled-the half fold of such blank, as the halves of the sheet will now be in superimposed relation to each other. Then the half folded sheet is further folded along substantially parallel pre determined lines indicated at 11 and 12, i3 and 1t, and lit, and 17 and i8. The lines 11 and 12, are substantial continuations of each other as are the lines 13 and 14-, the lines 15 and 16, and lines 1"? and 18. The fold line 1%, which right to all other ice fold lines hereinbefore described, is the line on which the article is finally folded.
When the sheet A, is provided with the fold lines hereinbefore referred to it is divided into a plurality of sections indicated at 20 and 21, 22 and 23, 24 and 25, 26 and 27 28 and 29, and 30 and 31. As illustrated by Figure 2, of the .drawing, the sections 20 and 21, and 30 and 31, in thehalf folded blank are directly opposite each other, these being folded inwardly at one side of said half folded blank, while the sections 24 and 25, and 26 and 27, which are likewise opposite each other are reversely folded inwardl ,at the reverse or other side of the half olded sheet. The thus folded sheet in its elongated formation finally folded on the fold line 19, presents double ply or thickness grasping tabs B, the combined width of which transversely to the fold is approximately equal to or slightly less than the width of a dispenser cabinet inv which the articles are adapted to be received. Preferably, each tab B, has a width which may be equal to or slightly greater than one-half the transverse width of the folded article, and therefore in forming the tabs both tabs combined will equal to the width of the article when thus'folded.
The tabs B, are on opposite sides of the folded article and of double thickness, it beingof course understood that they may be of any desired and predetermined width, and-coextend with the outside edges of the folded sheet. 7 I a It will be noted that in folding a sheet as hereinbefore described the articles fas folded may be lacedin'a superimposed regularly formed pile or stack, and that it is unnecessary to place the folded articles in any particular. manner in the pile or stack, and without regard to the way or' afrangement the articles are in the pile the feature of providing a pile or stack from which one article at a time is taken is present, and that at the same time, in removing an article from the pile the said article will automatically unfold or partially so, so that it. is substantially ready for use.
What is claimed is 1. An element designed for use in a dis- 'pensing package, wherein the folded sheets are superimposed one upon the other, comprising the following structure, namely a folded sheet of material, as an article of manufacture, including a blank initially folded along a median line to present a. double half sheet, again folded along lines parallel to the median line, re'versely to opfolded along a median line to present a double half sheet, again folded along lines parallel to the median line, reversely to opposite sides of the half sheet, and finally folded on a transverse median line to present double thickness coextensive .tabs on opposite sides along one longitudinal edge of the article, the portions between the fold lines being double thickness throughout.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
EMIL J. HANSEN.
