UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEEDs A. 00011, OF DANsvILLE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN HANGERS FOR SLIDING DOORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,618, dated October 11, 1875 application filed July 17, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEEDS A. 000K, of Dansville, in the county of Livingston and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hanger for Sliding Doors, of which the following is a specificatiou:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front elevation, and Fig. 2 an end view, of my improved hanger for sliding doors.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to improvements in the mode of hanging sliding doors for barns, cars, 850., which has heretofore been patented to me under date of November 1, 187 0, and numbered 108,763, so that the construction of the same is simplified, and the working of the doors facilitated.
The invention consists of a sliding door that is guided at the top part, and hung to a swinging lever that is guided at its lower end in a slot of a vertical post, and supported centrally by a radius-bar pivoted to the upper end of the post.
In the drawing, A represents the sliding door of a railway freight-car, barn,'or other structure, which is guided by a top rail, B, in suitable grooves of the top frame. The door A is hung, by means of a swinging lever, (J, and a radius-bar, D, to a vertical post, E, the lever being pivoted at its upper end to the gate, and guided at its lower end by a pivotpin, a, in a slot, 12, of post E. The radius-bar D is pivoted about centrally to lever C, and also to the upper end of post E, so that the door may be opened or closed by the parallel motion imparted thereto by the action of swinging lever and radius-bar. The door is opened entirely when the lever and radiusbar are at the other side of the post, in a position symmetrical to their former position when the door is closed. When the door is larger the same may be hung to a second post in similar manner, the additional lever and radiusbar swinging in a perfectly parallel position to the first lever and bar, furnishing thus a very simple, easily-operated, and quickly-workin g door.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- As an improvement in hangers for sliding doors, the combination of sliding door with a swinging lever, sliding in slot of main post, and with a radius-bar pivoted centrally to lever and to the main post, to be opened and closed by the parallel motion produced thereby, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
