TOILET PREPARATION.
Application filed October 8, 1927. Serial No. 225,010.
The present invention relates, generally, to cosmetics and means for containing the same. It has particular adaptation in connection with cold cream and the presenting thereof for sale in a formwell suited to be carriedupon the person and used conveniently as desired.
The properties of cold cream are Well known and it will sufiice to note that it is used extensively in cleansing, softening,
massagingand preserving the skin, as well as serving as a base for powder and rouge.
One of its characteristic qualities, deteriorat- 7 ing when exposed to air, however, renders it ill suited to be carried about, unless maintained in a tight container. In view of this fact, it has never been common to carry it about as a part of the personal kit. Its oily nature additionally serves to restrict its use to the home and prevents its being carried about the person.
Anobject of this invention is to provlde a conveyance for cold cream which renders the; latter readily transportable as a part of a the accessories carried upon the person.
l A further object of the' invention 18 to provide, not only a convenient conveyance for the, cream, but also a means for enabling it to be applied to the skin without soiling the hands or smearing an excess of the cream upon the skin which must be wiped off after application.
In carrying out the above objects, it is proposed to apply a thin coating of the cream to opposed faces of two sheets of paper which serve as the conveyance and then causing the i coated faces to adhere to each other through the medium of the cream itself. The result:
ing sandwich or sheet may form one of a 40 plurality comprising a pad of sandwiches and maybe enclosed in a suitable packet or container. In coating the sheets it may be desirable to apply a coating of paraffin or other substance which is impervious to the 46 cold cream in order to prevent the fingers from becoming soiled by cream permeating the fibres of the paper.
In order that the invention may be more fully understood, it will. be described with- 50 reference to the accompanying drawing wherein the single figure is a view in perspective showing a pad of sheets bearing the cold cream in accordance with the present invention.
6 Referring to the drawing, a designates are normally free from cosmetic.
sheets formed in accordance with the present invention and composed of pairs of leaves b of paper or other material upon the opposed faces of which is a coating 0 of cold cream. One of the sheets a has been partially shown no as separated, to illustrate the manner in which the cold cream is applied thereto to cause the leaves 6 to adhere to one'another.
A desired number of the sheets may be secured together by stitching d or other suitable means and the pad may be folded to be in a more convenient form.
It will be found that the outer surfaces of the sheets will be relatively-free from the cream so that the user may separate the leaves by squeezing and tearing apart without soiling the fingers.
Material to be used, such as paper, may be selected having a desired characteristic permeability for cold cream so that the outer surface will be preserved free of the cream and, to enable the cream to be carried within the paper, the latter may be of greater po- .rosity upon the coated side than upon the outer surface.
In connection with theabove, the outer ,surface of the leaves maybe treated with para-ifin, thus rendering them entirely free of the cream. This is merely one suggested way of adapting the invention to a further consideration and its scope is not to be limited by the specific description embodied herein, but is to be construed as covering constructions falling within the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A toilet article comprising a sheet formed of two leaves having a cosmetic therebetween and whereof the external surfaces of the sheet are normally free from cosmetic.
2. As a toilet preparation, a sheet comprising two leaves of fibrous material each impregnated with cold cream on adjacent surfaces and adherent to one another thereby, whereby the external surfaces ofthe sheet 3. A toilet article comprising a sheet formed of leaves of fibrous material bearing a cosmetic on adjacent surfaces and adherent to one another thereby, whereby the external surfaces of the sheet are normally free from cosmetic, the sheet being separable into a plurality of leaves, each leaf having cosmetic on one surface and being free of cosmetic on the other surface.
4. A toilet article comprising a sheet formed .of two leaves having cold cream therebetween and whereof the external surfaces of the sheet are normally free from cold cream, but which cold cream is exposed for 5 use by separating the sheet into the two leaves. 5. A toilet article comprising a sheet formed of a plurality of leaves having a cosmetic therebetween, and whereof the outer surfaces of the sheet are normally free from the cosmetic, the construction being such that the cosmetic is maintained free from air. This specification signed this,1st day of October A. D. 1927 JACOB S. BERLIN ER.
