IRONING BOARD.
Application led. July 30,
My invention relates to ironing boards, and more particularly to improved means for hingedly and pivotally connecting an ironing board to a wall or other support,
I whereby one end of the ironing board will be securely attached to a suitable support in such a way that it can be folded up into a vertical position and also whereby it can be swung around in a horizontal plane to various angular positions and even to a position parallel with and against the wall to which it is attached.
I prefer to attach my improved ironing board to a hinged member in a receiving pocket formed in a wall whereby said board can be folded within said pocket in an outof-the-way position when not in use, butL it will be understood that it can be attached to any desired and suitable support relative to which it is to be adjusted vertically or horizontally.
In order to fully and clearly explain my invention, I have illustrated the same on the accompanying sheet of drawings, which I will now describe:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ironing board embodying my invention; and
Figure 2.is a fragmentary view showing the details for securing or attaching the board to the support, whereby to make it adjustable.
Referring now to the drawings, I will describe one practical embodiment of my invention. I have shown it mounted within a pocket in the wall, whereby it can be folded within said pocket, and conveniently let down, and when down, it can be turned to any position desired, without detachment from the connecting means.
The invention comprises a hinged member, 1, preferably hinged to a support, 2, and an ironing board, 3. provided at its ends with three holes, as 4, 5 and 6, adapted to be connected to the member 1, as b v means of a bolt, 7 with thumb nut, 8. This bolt can be inserted through the member 1, and any one of the holes, 4, 5 or 6, depending on the position it is desired to use the board when down. To the underside of said board, towards its outer end, is a swinging leg structure, 9, adapted to fold back 1924. Serial No. 729,176.
against the underside of the` board when it is raised to the rip-position.
In the drawings, the' board is mounted in a pocket, or recess, 10, in the wall, having the outer frame 11, and door, 12. The pocket is of sufficient depth that the supporting member, 2, is attached therein with room for the board to be folded'upwardly, as indicated in dotted lines and permit the door to be closed. In the upper part of the pocket I have shown la shelf or abutment member,
13, against which the board rests when up, and if desired, this can be used for a shelf for small articles. I have also shown space under the supporting member 2, to receive the iron, designated 14.
In Fig. 1, I have shown the ironing boa-rd in three different positions` In solid lines it is extended directly out from the wall pocket, and the bolt is through the middle hole 5, in the end of said board, as shown. In the upper dotted line position, it is shown swung around against the wall, parallel with the wall and out ofthe way. llVhen it is desired to use the board in this position, the board is connected to the bolt 7, through hole 6, thus making it possible for the board to bel swung to this position. It often happens that the space for an iron-l ing board is too small to permit of its being connected to the wall and then swung straight out. My invention makes it possible for a board to be connected to the wall so that it can be raised to an out-of-the-way position, and when let down for use, it can be swung around to a position against the wall, without disconnecting it from the supporting member 2, and hinged member, 1, by which it is connected to the wall. The arrangement andr operation will be clear from the showing.
While I have shown the preferred form of the invention, I am aware that changes in the details can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not limit myself to the showing made, except as I may be limited by the hereto appended claim.
I claim:
A cabinet ironing table and mounting therefor including a support, a fiat attaching member hingedly connected to said sup port and adapted to be moved from a horizontali position toy a vertical position, :n pivot element carried by said Hat attaching member, an ironing board, means at the end of said ironing board at the middle thereof `und rmeans at opposite sides thereof to recevesaid pivot .element for adjustably at-
