My invention relates to pumps.. It is the Object of my invention to providea' pump in vwhich the source of 4motive* power canv continuously operate ina 'given' /direction producing reciprocation ot the pump parts without the necessity ot reducing gears5-levers or Otlierapparatus.
It is a further object to provide a pump` which will takeup the minimum of floor space, which cair run at the speed of the motive pfwer and which willy be automatic In its operation'.v

5 a sleeve 6 which' continuously rotates witlr it in a clockwise direction. A eol1ar7 supported-on the shoulder 8 provides a suitable support orthesleeve. 9 indicates a bearing.
This sleeve 6 has connected toit bypins V110@ a shiftingv sleeve 11l provided with jaws 12 in which the shifting jaw 13 is fitted; This `sleeve 14 on a reciprocating shifting rod 15 guided in the eyes 16 of the casing 2. f y Y The clutch operating sleeve 11 is adapte-d to reciprocate upon the sleeve 6 as wellas rotate with it. Mounted in the sleeve 6 a split coll the respective sides of the collar adjacent the split'20` therein7 s uclr arl'ns being pivoted 0n thepins 21. The pin` 10 is adapted to move between the upper ends oit the arms to draw the arms together or expand-'them tofopen' This collar surrounds a solid or non-split sleeve 22 which 'is adapted to engage with theiexternal surfaces of the threads oi the screw 23 to which screw it is splined by the spline 24 in the groove 25. f 'i 7 Adjacent this screw is a nut and sleeve i ntegrally formed, the nut portion'being designated 26 and the sleeve being' designatedv27. This nut rests on a plate 28 supported by bolts 29on a collar 3() which is anv integral ar 17 having arms 18 and 19 connected to part of the casing2. -Ttturns in abeari'ng 31 Y in thiscollar 30.1 Surroundingthe sleeve27 is the upper `friction dragmember 32 adapted to rictionally resist the vrotation oi the sleeve 27 and the nut 26 asthe nut 261s'internally threaded to receivethe screw This sleeve extendslupwardly to the bottom ot' the collar 22. On the sleeve -is` a`-second split clutch collar33. 'This collar has a mentr of arms designated34 and 35actuated by the pin 36 and supported on pins'37 on The shifting rod l5 isv prov-idedwi'tli an` upper notch 38' and'lower notch 40 engaged by a` spring pressed plunger 41 actuated by the spring-42 located within the casing 2.-
At the bottom of lfriction dragl 43 is providedy having an arm 44 engaging with the stationary rod 45 which also holds the upper friction draginposition. A shifter member 46i's carried onthesucker rod 47 adapted to engage with through; the spring 49 on l' the, Thereis also provided on Ythe shifter rodansimilar arrange- 9 thecollar' 48l l shifter rod, f y,
other collar 5() and a spring 5l. The .screw is connected to the rod in such a manner that it is entirely independent oit the rod in its rotation first in one direction and then in the other, but is so connected to the rod that the rod and screw reciprocate together. Thus the rotation of the screw first in one direction and then in the other in the arms t3 will not affect the sucker rod 47 but the movement ot the screw up and down will move the rod.
The base casting 1 carries the tube 52. It carries at the bottom thereot aV pump cylinf der and thestrainer 54: together with the valves generally designated 55 and 5G ot anyf .les-aired character.
The base casting is providedl with an exit pi ageway 57 through which Huid passes beneath the valve 5 8 to the outlet pipe 59; An air chamber (30 is provided with the usual Lincumatic switch 6l having electrical connections 62 in circuit with the motor $5.
life/571,00]- of Operatiowffhe motor rotates continuously in a givendirection, such asa clockwise direction atsome desirable speed, such as i750V revolutions per minute. As it rotates, it rotates the sleeve (3 and the clutch sleeve ll. It the parts are as in ,Figure 3 with the shitting rod 15 in its uppermost position fthe arms l9and 18 are spread apart at the top and drawn together at the bottom clamping the split sleeve 17 on the sleeve 2&2 splined toV the worm 23 therehy rotatingl the screw ineving it downwardly.
At this time the upper 'friction drag 82 tric#` tionally engages the sleeve 27 preventing it Yfrom rotating and preventing its associated nut 2G from rotating.
The clutch sleeve 331s now open. The continued movement of the worm will operate through the shifter arm t6 and rod 15 to bring about a. downward movement oi Vthe rod, positioning the plunger lll in the notch 38 which will Vresult in the relative shitting Vdownward ol" the sleeve '1l on they rotating sleeve @releasing the upperclutch.and closin g the lower clutch or split sleeve 33 on the sleeve Q7 V'ausing the sleeve 27 and its'nut 26150 rotate withV the sleeve 6, and, in doing so, to reverse the direction ol `movement ot the screw 23 working the screw upwardly.` VThe lower drag t3 holds the screw 'from turning.
The rotation oit the sleeve (i and the sleeve 27 is, oit course, alifected through the .clutch action of the split sleeve 33.
Thus, in my apparatus, the essentials consist ot a continuously rotating motive power unit, driving a continuously rotating driv Ving member with a driven member,4 which reciprocates and rotates in opposite directions,
V4and an automatic means tor joining the rocations as may he necessary to adapt it to varyingconditions and uses. i
