This invention relates to a new and irnproved type of swimming glove and has for its primary object yto provide a glove so constructed and reinforced as to assist the user thereof by preventing undue spreading of the hand and fingers thereby preventing fatigue. p

The invention broadl contemplates the provision of an all rub er glove having a back of heavier material than the palm and having the finger tips, backs of the fingers and the back of the hand reinforced. In addition to the linger tip and back reinforcing webs formed between, the lingers are reinforced alon their edges to prevent eX- cessive stretchlng thereof and the wrist portion-of the glove is provided with a heavy reinforcing band which, in addition to serving as an anchor point for the reinforcing ribs of the back, prevents water from entering the glove.

Another object of the invention is to provide an article of the above described character which will be of an extremely light weight and at the same time'strong and durable.

The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing but may be changed or modlied so long as such' changes or modifications mark no material departurefrom the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 indicates generally the swimming glove embodying the present invention, the same being shown', formed of a top or back portion 2 and a palm portion 3.

The glove* is preferably constructed 'entirely of rubber and as shown the back is made materially heavier or thicker than the palm portion to stand the strains imposed thereon by reinforcing cords 4 which extend longitudinally thereof, therev being onek of these cords for each linger and for the thumb, the same extending from apoint ad )acent the wrist portion as indicated at 5 throughout the length and to the end of each of the linger stalls.

Formed about the yWrist portion 6 of the glove 1s a relatively heavy band of rubber 7, this band serving a two fold purpose, one of the purposes being to hold the wrist of the glove tightly about the Awearers wrist Y and the other purpose being to provide a suitable anchor'body for the heavy rubber cords 4. The tips of the finger stalls of the glove are reinforced, as indicated at 8, by providlng a number of plies of rubber therefor. At the tip of each'stall, there is formed a polnted hard rubber tip body 9 which acts to take any wear which may be imposed upon the ends of the finger stalls and in' addition serves as an anchor point at the outer ends of the rubber stalls for, lthe reinforcing cords 4.

- Arranged between' the finger stalls of the cloth and between the index finger and thumb, is a tough thin rubber web 10. These webs at their outer edges are bordered by heavy rubber cords 11, the ends of which are secured to the hard rubber tips of the adjacent finger stalls in themanner shown.

From the foregoing description', it will be readily understood that the swimming glove herein described may be lightly constructed and at the' same time due to the reinforcing features, the glove will stand a great amount of wear and vrough usage. .In addition to this the methodof reinforcing the present glove is such that the strain upon the hand of the wearer which is usually very great will be materially relieved.

Having thus described my invention, what I 'claim is 1. A swimming glove of the character del scribed, comprisinga resilient body having finger stalls, said body having the palm surface thereof of materially lighter material than` the back, tapered reinforcing tips formed at the ends of said finger stalls, resilient webs formed between the stalls, and a relatively heavy cord "formed along the outer end of each of said webs and attached at each end to one of said tips.

A swimming glove of the character described, comprising a resilient body having finger stalls, said body having the palm surface thereofl of materially lighter material than the back, tapered reinforcing tips formed at the ends of said finger stalls, re.- silient webs formed between the stalls, a relatively heavy cord formed along the outer end of each of said webs and attached at each end to one of said tips, a relatively heavy reinforcingband formed about the wrist portion of the glove body, and reinforcing resilient ribs each extending from said band along the back of a nger stall signature. f WILLIAM G.
