Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
H. sHAW NOBLE, OE MONROE, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN NEWSPAPER-FILES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,047, dated February 1, 1876; application filed l November 23,1875.l
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, H. SHAW NOBLE, of Monroe, in the county of Monroe and State of Michigan, have invented an Improved File- Case for Newspapers, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide a readingtile for newspapers and periodicals, which, when not in use, can be folded into a case permanently secured to the wall.
The invention consists in a reading-desk, hinged at its lower edge to the bottom of a wall-case, into which it may be folded. Thel desk is fitted with a paper-file for securing newspapers, and a folding or hinged frame of light metal at one side, for supporting the leaves of the periodicals On the le When Opened out.
Figure l is a perspective view of the readingdesk and tile when Openedy out and ready` for use. Fig. 2 is a similar View of the closed file-case. Y
In the drawing, A represents a shallow case, which is to be permanently secured to the wall of the room. 4It has pivoted in its lower parta desk, B, so arranged as to drop down to the proper angle for reading printedmatter lying thereon, or it can be folded up to close the front of the case, being secured by a sprin glatch, a, as seen in Fig. 2. Along the right side of the desk there is secured a file, G, ot' any desired form or style, in which to secure newspapers or other periodical publications. Near the right edge there is hinged a light metallic frame, D, so arranged as to fold overthe closed papers when the desk is to be folded up into the case; but, when opened, itis thrown' over to the right, as shown,'tolfo rm a support for the Open leaves of the right portion ofthe opened volume.
This tile-case costs -no more than a stationary file-stand, takes up less roomwhen not in use, and its contents are protected fromv dust when inclosed.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. A newspaper-tile combined with a reading-desk that is adapted to fold into and close a wall-case, substantially as described.
2. The frame D, iu combination with the folding ledesk B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
