nrernnrc nnvron' Application filed Dec'emberfi, 192% Serial No. 237,438.
This invention relates to personal hygienic devices for Women and is directed to an improved simplified non-washable, pack-plug for absorbing the catamenial flow or other discharges from the vagina.
One object of the invention is to provide an improved hygienic appliance of the character described which shall form a highly absorbent, sanitary pack-plug for tamponing the vagina, which may be easily inserted, replaced and disposed of after use with the least inconvenience, and held comfortably in efiective position without requiring pins, belts or other securing means.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved hygienic appliance of the character described comprising few and commercially obtainable simple materials which can be readily made in size and shape to suit the requirements and yet forms a small compact structure so that several appliances can be handily and inconspicuously carried about on the users person, and shall be inexpensive to manufacture, and practical and efiicient to a high degree in use.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the" Fig. 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 10 denotes an improved sanitary, hygienic, menstrual, non-washable pack-plug embodying the invention, comprising a suitably rolled filler or layer 11 of sterilized absorbent material such as cellulose formed of chemically treated linen, cotton, wool, flax or wood fibre,
forming a core Within a wrapper strip 12 of foraminous sheet. material such as, coarsely woven surgical gauze.
The material, forming the absorbent layer and strip are readily obtainable and inexpensive and can be easily and cheaply manufactured into the improved pack-plug by rela tively unskilled labor and without the use an elongated frusto-conically shaped body.
This is rolled within the strip 12 so as to be completely wrapped therein.
One end of the body may be enclosed by a folded portion 12 of the strip, and the opposite end of said body has a portion 12 of said strip extending therefrom bunched together or twisted into a coil for retaining the wrapper strip in position. Said twisted portion also forms an extending tail and serves as a convenient means for handling the improved pack-plug as willhereinafter appear.
In using the pack-plug 10, it is held by tail portion 12 and simply inserted into the cavity of the user for tamponing the vagina. When said pack-plug is in effective position the walls and membranes of the cavity will close around the peripherical edge 1O thereof'adjacent the attached end of the tail portion and prevent accidental dislodgment thereof.
By slightly parting the walls of the cavity at its opening the pack-plug may'easily be removed on seizing thetail portion 12 and withdrawing the pack-plug from said effective position.
The pack-plug may be readily disposed of in the lavatory water closet bowl since it is relatively small and will be carried away with other waste without clogging the plumbing system.
It is to be understood that the pack-plug may be varied in shape and size-to suit the comfort and convenience of the user and the requirements to conform with the shape of the cavity in which the pack-plug is to be inserted. Thus the pack-plug may be made either relatively large, medium or small and maybe cylindrical, conical, frustoconical, barrel shaped, etc. U
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of theabove invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing .is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A sanitary hygienic pack-plug of the character described comprising a filler of absorbent material, a relatively coarse woven textile strip wrapped about said filler, portions of said stri being extended and coiled to retain the win ing thereof about said filler and to form a projecting handling end.
2. A personal sanitary hygienic catamenial ack-plug comprising a rolled layer of a absor iment cellulose material, a strip of surgical gauze wrapped tightly thereabout, an end portion of said stri being extended beyond an end of said rolled layer and twisted to secure the strip to the layer, said twisted end 5 providing a projecting means for handling the formed pack-plug.
3. A non-washable sanitary hygienic menstrual pack, adapted to be inserted in a cavity for tamponing the vagina comprising a body 40 formedof layer of absorbent material rolled to form a core and a wrapper strip of a relatively coarse Woven surgical gauze, a portion of said gauze rolled with said layer and form ing a cover for said core projecting beyond said core, said portion being coiled to retain the wrapper strip on the body and to serve as a grasping means as and for the purpose described and specified.
4. A saintary hygienic menstrual pack adapted to be inserted in a cavity for tampon- ,ing the vagina" comprising a,core formed of rolled, superimposed layers of absorbent material and surgical gauze, said gauze constituting an outer wrapper for said core, a portion of said gauze projecting beyond said core and twisged to retain said core in rolled condition, an to serve as a grasping means for withdrawing said pack from the cavity. v In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. MARIE HUEBSCH.
