Description

April 15, 1930. GREEN 1,754,713
SERVING TRAY Filed Dec. 15. 1923 v I I nvenior llzf'iazz If Attorney Patented Apr. 15, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SERVING TBA};
Application filed December 13, 1928.
The present invention relates to improve ments in serving trays and has reference more particularly to certain improvements over the serving tray embodied in my copending application.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a serving tray that is formed at one end with an extension and which extension is provided with a series of ice cream cone receiving openings.
A further object is to provide a serving tray of the above mentioned character that is stamped or formed from a single blank of metal, thus rendering the same strong and durable, yet inexpensive in its manufacture.
A further object is to providea serving tray of the above mentioned character that will at all times be positive and eflicient in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the serving tray embodying my invention, and
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
I11 the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, thenumeral 1 designates generally a substantially rectangular shaped frame constructed from any suitable metal, the same including abottom 2, and the upwardly diverging side walls and end walls 3 and 4, respectively, that form the rim as clearly shown in the drawing. The upper edge of the side walls 8 and one of the end walls is rolled as indicated at 5.
A horizontal extension 6 is formed at the upper edge of the other end wall 4, and as observed upon referring to Figure 1, this extension forms a continuation of the rolled upper edges of the side walls 3, and the outer edge of this extension is rolled as indicated at 7.
A series of spaced cone receiving openings Serial No. 325,830.
8 are formed in the extension 6, and upon referring to Figure 2 it will be noted that the edge portion of each opening is disposed downwardly to form the flange 9 so that a sharp edge will not engage the wall of the ice cream cone and cause breakage thereof.
In use, the ice cream cones are placed in the respective openings 8 and will he supported in an upright position while the tray is being carried, and the major portion of the tray will be used to support or receive dishes .or glasses.
A serving tray of this character will be very inexpensive, and by constructing the same from a single blank of metal, the same will be strong and durable.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a serving tray of the class described, a bottom of substantially rectangular shape, upstanding side and end walls connected together at their adjacent ends to form a continuous rim, a lateral extension formed on the upper edge of one of the walls and extending for the full length thereof, said extension being provided with a series of spaced ice cream cone receiving and supporting openings, the upper edges of the remaining walls being rolled, the edge of the extension being rolled, the upper face of said extension lying in the same horizontal plane with the upper edge portion of each of the walls that extend tipwardly from the bottom of the tray.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CLIFTON H. GREEN.
