p ,This invention relates to devices for the massage of the face, scalp and other parts of the human body. 1
Such massaging devices usually consist of a cup like or other rubber massaging element to which a rotary or vibratory motion is imparted by an electric motor.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved massaging device in the form of a nozzle which may be readily attached to the .suction hose of an electrically driven suction producing machine embodying a rotary fan whereby the face, scalp and other parts of the human body may be subjected to a suction or vacuum effect which stimulates blood circulation, opens the pores of the skin, effectively removes scurf, dandrufi and the like from the scalp, and otherwise affords a highly efficient and inexpensive substitute for the massaging devices at present in use.
A nozzle, in accordance with the invention, may also be attached to a compressed air discharge hose of said machine whereby it may be effectively employed for hair drying and like purposes.
A further object of the invention is to provide a massaging apparatus comprising in combination a suction producing machine embodying a fan as abovementioned, a flexible hose connected thereto, and a nozzle adapted for massage purposes attached to the outer end of said hose.
Referring to the drawings which form part of this specification Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a nozzle in accordance with one embodiment of'this invention which is particularly adapted for massage of the face or body.
Figure 2 is a similar section of another form of the invention, especially adapted for scalp massage purposes.
Figures 3 and 4 are plan views of Figures 1 and 2 respectively.
Figure 5 is a part sectional side view of a complete massage apparatus in accordance with the invention, parts being broken away for convenience of illustration.
The improved nozzle includes a tubular body portion 2 which may converge slightly from its rear end 3 to its front end where the nozzle is provided with an orifice 4 surrounded by-an outturned annular flange 6 which is adapted to be pressed against or close to the skin of the part under treatment.
For massage of the face, body and limbs, the nozzle is provided with a roundedshoulder 7 surrounding the induction orifice 4 and connecting the internal surface of the tubular body 2 with the front face of the aforesaid flange 6 whereby the latter may be pressed close against the skin without discomfort and in such a manner as to provide an effective suction against that portion of the skin which is surrounded by the flange.
Th'e'rear end 3 of the tubular nozzle body is preferably provided with an external lip or head 8 over which the; outer end of the suction hose 9 or a discharge hose 10 of a suction producing machine 11, may be closely fitted or alternatively said hose or hoses may be fitted tightly with the nozzle.
The machine 11 embodies a rotary fan 13 driven by an electric motor 14 and adapted to induce a relatively strong current of air through the suction hose 9 and nozzle attached thereto. Preferably suitable connections 9*, 10, are provided on the machine 1] at either side of the fan 13 to receive the suction hose 9 or the compressed air discharge hose '10 according to requirements. In Figures 2 and 4 is a modified nozzle which i's'especially adapted for scalp massage urposes and for the removal of scurf, dandruff and the like. In this case the outstanding flan e 6 is relatively flat and of extended width, the rounded shoulder 7 being preferably less pronouncedthan in the embodiment above described. Projecting forwardly from this relatively flat flange is a series of short resilient pins or projections 12 which are preferably formed of rubber and may be integral with the said flange.
Rubber is also preferably employed in the construction of the body and flange of the nozzle but other suitable material, may, if desired, be employed for this purpose and in the construction of the said pins or projections.
It will be evident that the invention enables a suitable suction producing machine, such, for instance, as a Vacuum cleaner, particularly of the electrically operated type, to be -conveniently and effectively utilized for mas- 5 sage purposes in hairdressing establishments,
households and other places, thus dispensing with the necessity forthe relatively expensive appliances which are at present specially constructed for the purpose. i i v In using the invention for suction massage purposes the nozzle 2is applied to'the'outer,
